My wife and I have 3 kids, but she has also lost 2. It's emotionally tough. Both were 1st trimester, and neither involved an actual 'delivery'. Having said that, they were still tough. We have friends who went though a spontaneous delivery at about 5 1/2 months. The little guy actually hung on for about an hour. It was brutal.
I genuinely feel for you and your wife, Jorge. Know that this probably does not have sweeping long term implications in terms of getting pregnant again.
Stay close to her, she needs you.

Thanks FB. I've been my wife's shadow because she needs help getting around, and being there for each other has been really special because we are both experiencing the same loss. Interestingly enough she mentioned wanting to have another child so we'll see how that pans out. I'm concerned because of what happened but it's mostly the fear of potentially going through the same thing again, but I think as time passes I'll be ok. I was mentally ready and eager to be a dad to an infant again since I had the confidence that you gain through a solid knowledge base.

Well, my negotiation officially worked out. Promotion at work. Sweet.
Oreos are on me!
(no really, I spilled a bunch just now).

I have had investors. 2 personal investors on the first carbon run that I paid a simple 20% interest to. Paid off quickly. I have a SBA line of credit for inventory, and an SBA loan for the computrainers. Now I have 3 more personal investors who have ponied up for my next major project with a payback by December - simple 15% interest.
I have, what I consider to be, a very good understanding of P&L statements, but have always considered myself a little lost on balance sheets. I am used to running manufacturing operations based on direct P&L and measurement. Enough to know that I need to do 1 or all of 3 things to move forward: 1. Increase my margins via competitive value pricing. 2.Increase my net by cost control. 3. Sell more (more volume). I guess you could easily say that about any business though. Kind of like saying, "You can win a bike race if you just make sure you are first over the line at the end."
So far I believe I would have been in good shape a few times but I found ways to "re-invest" earnings. The computrainer thing - honestly - the payback is longer term than I had hoped. It will grow through word of mouth, but I could have had more of a positive business impact if I had spent that money on developing inventory or methods. Team sponsorship has crushed me multiple times as well. Team kits, I put about $20k of wheels under riders this year, parts I give to riders I "owe", etc.
Being from Lean Manufacturing I have a very low to non-existent inventory. That said, I have a lot of inventory when I look. Just almost all of it is "paid for" inventory. I have been running a "net Worth" chart out of Quickbooks to help keep an eye on whether I am really gaining ground or not. So far it's been a steady uptick.
I know the numbers would head North quickly if I was able to spend all my time on it and if I knew that was my only meal ticket, and it would be enough to know quickly whether or not it was going to work, but knowing when to throw in the towel or having enough time to plan personal as well as business finances to come up with a plan....
...but damn I know how to promote it. Word of mouth is just crushing it. My local market has exploded.
A local racer I know well ran into someone when he was on a trip in the South. Guy had PSIMET wheels. This racer tells this guy that he knows me and thinks it's kind of weird and cool to see my wheels that far away. The guy is all "OMG YOU KNOW PSIMET??!!" My guy is thinking, "Know him? I've dropped his ass for years." He said is was a surreal experience.
Locally I have always just been a "guy who builds wheels." but now people are seeing that there is a lot more to it and it's building momentum. Getting some of the urban elitists to acknowledge the value in what I do. I'm just stuck in a "fish or cut bait" mode. The promotion is in hopes of generating the business needed to make it full time, and yet getting that business interest puts me in a situation where I can't maintain doing it part-time....and yet kind of can as long as I can deal with my wife's resentment of it and my poor job performance at work....and poor racing results....wait....hmmmm....

Sounds like this guy is not super smart because he came back to the same place. Is he a real dolt and came in from the same place as before? If so, I would take this as a personal "diss". Nail his ass ($1 to umd).

Unfortunately, I buy big-box Oreos to keep the cost and shopping trips down. No Double Stuf. I think I should probably celebrate with a case of Chocolate Oreos though

Last Saturday I did a solo 82 mile ride in from the beach and 50+ miles into the ride I stopped and bought a bag of "mini" Pecan Sandies along with a small Coke and some water. I drained the Coke, used the water to refill my bottles and I ate two mini Pecan Sandies and put the rest in my jersey pocket. I didn't eat another one. Give me a cold baked potato instead. That works for me.

We had a miscarriage early in our first pregnancy (they're actually really common in the first trimester). I still remember returning all the stuff we had bought because my wife couldn't have it in the house. I broke down in the Dillard's parking lot and froze up for a good 30 minutes. Now we have three awesome kids and life is good, but that one still hurts terribly.
Continued thoughts and prayers for you and your wife.

DVR recorded Le Tour today, but decided audio wasn't really necessary, so it would go with video instead. I suppose that's better than the other way around... What a PITA. If I return it I lose all my saved stuff, but right now it's barely worth keeping if it's gonna keep half assing the recording.

No, just new. It's alright, I skimmed through it. If it misses the women's World Cup tomorrow I'm gonna break it.

On a note related to your line of work, which processor would you recommend if i want a long-lasting battery life? My 5-year old notebook just died and i need to get a replacement.
i should add that the processor would be from your company, and i hope it's comparable to the battery life of the company that shall not be named
