I'm not a fan of spiders, but those huge crickets are worse. Apparently (thanks to the Google) they're called Cave Crickets. They lived in the crawlspace in my old house. I hated going down there, because for one thing I'm slightly claustrophobic, mostly about situations I'm not sure I can get out of. I have a fear of crawling in a hole and not being able to get back out. Second, because these huge freaking crickets would jump at you and bounce off you and make creepy cricket noises and just in general be really icky. I'm having flashbacks.

We have centipedes. This is one of the larger ones but last week there was a smaller one in the living room and it was fast. Mrs John chased it around until she trapped it under a glass.

My experience involved unclogging a gutter and redirecting a downspout during a torrential rain. Kind of funny to think that we get soaked to the bone to keep things dry.

A nice thing about living so far north and away from the coast is that we don't have any large bugs, poisonous snakes, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.

I was just thinking the same thing. I was in a terrible mood after work due to a malingering employee leaving me in a bad situation. Went on a hard 3 hour club ride and now I feel great. Of course by tomorrow that will wear off and I'm going to breathe fire at the person.

the worst i had was a large flying American cockroach in my bathroom. As I was sitting down on the toiler and all the sudden i hear a buzzing sound, but couldn't see anything. Then ten seconds later it buzzed again. Right as i flushed I heard the buzz for a third time and actually ran out with my pants around my knees. Took me a few more seconds to realize what was making the noise.

The damned thing was 1.5 inches long, and it took quite a bit of raid spray to kill it. ugh

Who built it? FWIW, wheels can lose tension in the first 500 miles (even with destressing and all) and go out of true. If it keeps on going the spoke will lose all tension and snap.

Save yourself some anguish, buy a Park Tool tensiometer, and learn how to do true and tension wheels. Very soon, you'll be building your own.

after i built up my powertap, i'd check the tension on it every week and then every two weeks. No big changes after the first 300 or so miles, but it developed play around 400-500. Retension, and it was good until last week.

I don't know if your coworker de-stressed the wheels, but a proper de-stressing may take 5-6 rounds (Sheldon Brown has a very informative article on this).

If you work at a bikeshop, get the wheel building tools at employee pricing. It'll be worth your trouble.

Also, if you have two spokes break, i may even request a re-lacing.

Did the local 12.5 mile TT last night. 102 degrees, but felt much better than last time and shaved 2 minutes off my time. I think it was because I knew what was waiting for me at the finish line. (one of the guys found them in a Mexican Grocery)
