The team's end of the year party was tonight. The presenters, two teammates, were seriously funny (no surprise). I was honored to take home the most aggessive rider award. Throwing in the best colorado cyclist was icing on the cake. I am grateful for the efforts of my teammates. I took some spotlights that would not have been possible without them. Thank you. What a welcome intro to the sport!

1) Lemond still goes fast downhill

2) If you go faster than the current record, if someone else goes faster than you your going faster doesn't mean monkey poop.

3) Loctite those crank bolts

4) You can carry on a conversation while climbing

Yes, it is a 660. Good eye. And it has 2 cogs because the 17 and 19 are one unit. I thought about punching the rivets out but decided against it.

I've thought about it, but I'm also thinking about a moving my components to a cheaper all aluminum frame to ship around. But I haven't had a chance to think through all my options. I could but my wife a new frame, and steal back my Ridley, but do I want to ship that around? It might meet the same fate.

My left hand is effed up, maybe the bottom of the thumb joint. Pain gets worse after slamming into potholes and broken concrete and certain types of work at the job.
I'm going to try and figure out how to tape it before the next ride. Yesterday was bad, lots of chasing over some bad roads, but I did get to yell at some guys and two of them apologized for their Fred moves.

reasonable - I've broken enough carbon frames in the last two years to have thought long and hard about all this.
I'd recommend at least getting a quote from Calfee. They are usually much cheaper than folks expect.
Also,
carbon frames are repairable, aluminum frames are (usually) not.

That's a bummer. Do you see case damage etc?

A few notes:
- Leonard Zinn has 5 couplers on his ti bike - 2 top tube, 2 down tube, stem. It looks like he doesn't have to readjust his bars/stem (since they come off using couplers). He only has to put the seatpost in the right place. His stem and frame are both Ti. It must take him all of 5 minutes to fully assemble his bike.
- soft cases, at least on planes, get more respect. Lack of handles on mine (just two, one in the middle of each side) make it hard to pick up and toss. (I have a Bike Nashbar bag a friend gave me about 17? years ago, maybe more, and I've modded a few things on it since.)
- a UPS guy (racer who has been working there for almost 20 years) told me never to ship things longer than about 4-5 feet via UPS. This probably applies to other services too - the roller conveyer things have some curves where longer items can get trashed pretty quickly, like 8' fluorescent bulbs. He convinced me to always fly with my bike.

Still smarting after deciding to ride a longboard down a driveway and successfully launching myself across the curbing on the other side of the street and down the corresponding concrete driveway. Tubular dressings rock btw.

Ran into Saul Raisin at lunch. He's still saying he's going to come out and ride one Thursday Night. Looking forward to it.

Well that was a thrill and a half...

After doing the morning group ride decide to tackle the install of the new compact cranks...Swapping cranks I've done many times, but dealing with the 6700 cable routing, never. Everything was going fine and dandy until it came to adjust the FD position. The FD cable was shot and needed to be replaced. Not a big issue except once the cable was pulled out I couldn't get the new back in to route through the existing housing. Couldn't pull the bar tape back off the shifters since they had wrapped it way up. Ended up having to take the bar tape off and then routing was a cinch. Tried re-wrapping, but it looked like crap so I ended up ripping the tape off and re-wrapping with new Fizik.

Made to sure to make the housing ends visible in case I need to do a cable swap, since this Fizik stuff lasts forever!

The big plus is the bike looks much better now with the new tape

I forgot to mention a neat, little thing that happened to me on my ride Saturday morning.

It was a bit cooler that morning and overcast, with a slight chance of rain. The area I was riding in usually has a lot more cyclists pedaling around. There's some good hills and not much traffic. But this morning it was real quiet - almost spooky. Probably because of the cooler temps and wind. I just turned around and was heading back home. Cresting a little hill, getting ready to climb a pretty steep one I noticed an old hearse heading my way. It was going real, real slow. When I went by it I tried looking inside but couldn't see anyone from the tinted glass. When it passed me I looked around out of curiosity and noticed it put on its brakes.

I kept looking back to see if it was going to turn around but it kept going and I lost sight of it as it made its was around a turn. But that didn't stop me from getting creeped out. I tried picking up the pace but I was on the wrong part of the road to do it. It's funny how your mind makes up all kinds of strange crap when put in a situation like this. I was actually looking for places to ditch the bike. Unfortunately, I was in a wooded area with no houses and no other roads. It was me and the woods and whoever (or whatever) was driving that hearse.

I never saw it again though.
