Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Feedback Needed: I have a question for y'all.......

I've been mulling over a move to create a racing forum, in and of itself on the main index page for the racers, themselves, with Cross Discipline subforums.
  • Road racing
  • Masters Road racing
  • Mountain Bike Racing
  • Masters Mountain Bike Racing
  • Track Racing (Velodrome)
  • Masters Track Racing (Velodrome)
  • Cyclocross
  • Masters Cyclocross

The idea is to move all the racing disciplines under their own roof in a Racing Forum. I'll be posting a poll for your feedback and crossposting this into Mountainbiking, etc.

When I was unemployed I had time to browse the different categories here (and in other forums). Now I go to one forum regularly, and one category regularly - Road Cycling here. I don't have time/inclination to click on anything else - Track, Pro Racing, General, Mechanics, etc. I don't go to other cycling forums regularly, and no longer visit about 6 car forums regularly.

Adding more categories would mean I'd just skip more things that don't pertain to me.

I think that incorporating the existing Pro Racing, Track racing, and whatever other categories there are for racing stuff under the Road Bike Racing banner would be good, or under maybe "Road Bike (and other discipline) Racing". If you reduced the number of main categories, I'd be more likely to visit other areas (if they were sub forums of the Racing forum, so if Track were under the Road heading, ditto Pro cycling, etc).

I'd reserve Masters for 55 or 65+. 35+ or 45+ is not Masters in any way except on your license.

I've been considering cyclocross this fall and I think a lot of the discussions crossover (equipment, training, motivation, etc.) so I don't see the benefit of splitting it up other than maybe to keep the discussion extremely focused for those only doing one type of racing. I'd prefer to have all racing discussion in the same forum.

Don't need to add more divisions to it, but it would make sense to move the pertinent other racing forums to subforums of racing and have racing be it's own.

Road racing....

Sub = Cyclocross, track, etc.

No need to create separate masters, etc.

The subforum system is a good way of keeping the general riff raff from the main forums out of what is a highly informational forum.
