Your wattage for 25mph TTs
For those of you who do TTs with a Powermeter, care to share what is your typical wattage range for 25mph speeds on flat roads under ideal conditions (minimal/no wind)?
Yes, I know it will vary a lot depending on road type, TT position, etc. I just want to get a sense of the numbers. I have read it takes approx 290-300W to hold 25mph on a road bike in the drops and approx 250-260W in a TT tuck. Want to try to figure out what actual numbers are for various people. |
~200.
|
for me, although we don't have much flat/windless around here, I can do 25.0 at around 230-235 watts.
fortunately I have been going a bit faster than that in flat TTs lately. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/...c1d53d7c_b.jpg |
You're slick Nate.
I can't do 25 @ 200 no matter what kind of bike I'm on. |
Dang. I must have the drag coefficient of a dump truck on my road bike :D
|
@Nate - 200W? For real? Yeesh. I scrape by at about 20-21mph at that wattage on a road bike.
Grumpy - 230-235, eh? That's comforting. I had given myself a target of 260W or so in order to pull off a sub-hour 40k, and I think it appears to be a realistic target (my tuck isnt going to be as neat as yours - as I have a short torso/long legs, I need my elbows wider in order to clear my knees). Thanks! |
With no aero anything, and not really a very good TT position, I have the following for 3 TT's I did last year: 224w @ 21.7, 234w @ 22.2, and 243w @21.7. Note 20w increase in power (these are average power) with no increase in speed. No idea, but it was colder. So I would kill to do 25mph at 200w, but I think I would need closer to 300w to do 25mph on this course (which is rolling).

Weight plays a HUGE role in that number.
|
The OP said flat roads. CdA is more important than weight with that stipulation in place.
If you're responding to jgg3, absolutely agree. Is there a way to turn on a 'who is responding to who' feature on BF? |

My power to go 25 mph is about the same with TT bike and aero. At 78 kgs, I must be a fatty too.

I told you..
I was holding ~29-30 into a headwind on Tuesday's hipp ride, sans fancy wheels/helmet. The new rig is pretty damned aero. |
BTW you should be sleeping rather than reading bikeforums.
