racing Cat 4 unattached with team kit

I know this is against the rules, but has anyone ever done it and been DQ'd? Do they really care?

what kind of team kit do you mean?
I can't imagine anybody blinking an eye at someone with some local or regional team kit on(other than the real team members of course)
Pro team kit is an other story, but I have seen it done before. No comment!
Here Alberta they try to enforce a uniform clothing guide but I've never heard of anyone getting DQ'd for wearing different kit. Might depend on if the commisaire is having a ****** day !!

I'm assuming the team kit is from one that is not participating in the race. Otherwise it would be a foregone conclusion.

The official at the races in this region sure would, based on his threats to people who have folded the edges of their numbers, or tried to race with sleeveless jerseys. But I've never heard of anyone trying it.

if youve got a team kit and you dont want to spend money on more clothing just turn the jersey insideout, but i dont think they would realy bust balls about it, especialy now when the race season is over

I have a Cycle Sports jersey, which I guess is a mag from Australia. I think they might sponsor a pro racing team somewhere in the world. That's the one I want to wear. Black with yellow tiger stripes. No other local teams have those colors, except maybe Mizzou college racers. Of course, I would not show up at a race with US Postal (or Discovery Team now) since some Postal guys have shown up at our races.

I only saw 1 guy in the 5's with a "Pro" jersey on the officials didn't question it but a guy with a sleeveless jersey was told to change with less than 2 minutes before the same race. he didn't but the officials just told him not to do it again.

I have even seen a person in 4/5 wearing a National Champion Jersey. This used to be a big deal, now things seem to be more relaxed. Frankly, as long as you are not inpersonating a team in the group I do not think it should be a problem. This is how most officials under 50 will respond in my experience. I see nothing wrong with 4/5 people wearing a pro teams jersey since it is so obviously not true. IMHO we need to welcome new people into the fold not make it hard, or exclusive. (I do draw the line at see-through shorts, particularlly in the masters category. Hincapie white shorts should be banned!)

Wearing a team kit when not part of a team used to earn one an automatic DQ. "Used to" as in 25 years ago when I first started racing. Now it's not a big deal from what I understand. But it does single a rider out as a complete fred.

Your Cat 4? Why haven't you gotten "attached"???

Besides being able to contribute something to a team, the team can contribute to YOU!! The cost of belonging to a team is not usually too expensive and you get a lot from it!! You get others that will work with you in races (and sometines even help you WIN over themselves if it is your turn or in the best interest of the team).

As someone about to become one of those "officials" I would say wear a WHITE unadorned jersey. A bit of a purist view, but it certainly will help the official (which may very well help you). The rule is there for a reason. It helps the officials know who is who in the race and it helps team members identify team mates (and potential allies since unattached riders can benafit from an alliance with a team at times in a race).

Lastly - bicycle racing is a TEAM sport! You will enjoy the experience more and will probably get better results too.

Just my opinion...Bill
