Who says what Lance is using (if anything) is illegal. If he taking substances that have yet to be banned he isn't cheating. It may not be moral but it isn't cheating. I believe that all cyclist take some form of performance enhancer (jeez I use gels and drinks and so do most you) the only difference is the elite ones have docs to make up the high test stuff. If the UCI and WADA have not banned it then it isn't illegal to use it. I remember on doc commenting on the doping during the Sydney Olympics saying something to the effect that the testers were years behind the makers. You can't ban or test for something you don't know exists.

I do not care who your nutritionist and how hard you work out, you are just not going to experience those drastic gains. Trust me I know what I'm talking about when it comes to ROIDS....because the 2" 21G and pink pentagram tabs were my friends... for several years...

i think it is quite possible to put that kind of weight on. chek yur local GNC store. all the protien powders and weight gainers plus the pre hormone supplements can cause tremendous gains if applied properly plus proper nutrition. its very possible

Bonds has already admitted to taking steriods "by accident". I don't know if it's possible to put on that kind of bulk naturally, but in Bond's case, it's a moot point.

Minor disagreement. If it isn't banned, it is legal. However, I believe that performance advancement through chemistry, genetic manipulation, etc., is still cheating.

Personally, as much as I wish it weren't so, I think Victor Conte is right. They all do it, and to compete on a "level field", they all have to do it. Technology for detection will remain behind the curve, and can barely limit what is done. Add to that there are often business reasons to look the other way or minimize doping (consider the NFL). It's pretty hard to be optimistic.

Your best bet at seeing anything close to clean athletics is amateur.

Someone should put up a web page listing various excuses of pro athletes.

Baseball policies are a huge joke. I saw them claim that the minor league ball has the toughest anti-doping policy in professional sports, which is a complete lie as cycling and track and field have everything they have plus punishment with teath. Minor league has a 15 game suspension for a positive test, which is nothing. Baseball owners and players don't care about drugs cause homeruns put butts in the seat and make them all money and that is what they all care about.
And we don't really care about cheating here as a whole cause notice that lots of people still like Sammy Sosa confirmed cheater. Keep in mind they lowered his suspension cause he appealed it even though there was no doubt that he did it. Cheaters win, so people will keep cheating. I am just waiting for Barry to be arrest since he violated a couple of laws, oh wait that will never happen. Cuase sports stars can do no wrong.

Guys who really cares about bonds taking drugs. If it walks like a duck and looks like a duck then it is a duck. I dont think lance has taken any drugs. But if he did oh well he will join the other pros who took them and made millions. SO WHAT!!!

Man, this is a tired conversation. Same ol' s**t. Why do people who have no facts constantly speculate about something they know nothing about. Innocent until proven guilty. Other than that, everything else is hearsay and opinion.

BTW, I am not a Lance fan. I am a cycling fan and I believe that with cycling being a subset of life, there will always be cheaters and people who break the rules. Cheating makes me mad as hell, but I can't point the finger at people if I don't have the facts or correct information.

Yeah he did...he took a nice little drug called ifosfamide (it eats at your kidneys and bone marrow) and even had Epogen...

both during chemo....Epogen better know as EPO because his hematocrit was about half of what it should be....

BTW...having been involved in two family members doing chemo, and what little I do know from sitting in on those conversations, there is little chance that Armstrong would screw around with his body. He still lives with the fear (even though he's considered cured) that the cancer could come back.

and I, too, grow weary of this.

Apparently, so has this judge

I think EPO is called epoetin alpa. At least that's what it says on my handy carrying bag:

I think you will find there is more than one form....

As I recall, Epogin is epoetin beta and that's beyond my pharmaceutical knowledge, but I do know both of my cousins took it to help with anemia during chemo. Whichever works for what (alpha vs beta) is past my knowledge level...

Marion Jones/Lance Armstrong - Happy in Hawaii?

I was hoping Cheryl Crow was free again.

This topic is ridiculous! When we really get serious about drugs and quit pushing them on TV and everywhere else, we can all be appalled together. Until then, its a fact of life in our "gotta have it now" society.

And when a guy like Lance Armstrong, who works his tail off to get where he is, comes along,
too many just assume...

Lance Armstrong has never tested positive for any banned substance. Even a prescription cannot get you off for a positive test.

Steroids were legal in MLB until 2005.

Which of course brings up the point - if getting around drug testing is so easy, why do so many high profile athletes test positive? Millions of dollars in salaries and product endorsements at stake, yet they still get caught?

Nice try, troll. You've failed.
