what would you do next in your training cycle?

background is

I'm a heavy guy at 204 currently but my goal is the 180's and I did hit 193 last year.

I do have a power meter

my ftp is 260, 5 min power is 295 haven't tested the other durations

I committed to riding the gran fondo new york with my gf.

So right now I'm training and focusing on the Gran Fondo and our race calendar is not out but expect it to the about the same as last year with 6 or 7 road races(1 is the TT champion ships the other a stage race) and 5 or 6 MTB races.

so once the GFNY is over what would YOU focus on?

should I pick a later race in the season to peak for and spend 8 weeks building my FTP ?

Bring heavy I do not climb well.. suffer in the high winds but I can hurt people on the descents and on courses with small rollers or punchy climbs.

We are practically twins, Smallguy. Recently, my training has made me feel like I'm strapping a nitrous system to a tug boat. Power is ok but damn, if I don't get my weight down to a laughable level compared to the ridiculous level it is now, this year...

...will be about like every other.

I'll have a good run weight loss for 3 weeks, then go nuts. Anyway, that's my focus.

for the next 3 weeks. Good luck.

What is the priority, losing weight or gaining power? You didn't say what kind of program you are on and where you are in it. If losing weight is the priority, long base rides with some tempo mixed in can be very effective as long as you are committed to being hungry most of the time until you hit your goal weight.

rkwaki knows more about this than I do, though. My weight struggles involve 1-3 kilos either direction.
