Try this... mount your bike on a rear wheel trainer, but leave the tire free to spin. Hop on and see how long it takes to go 0-40 mph. Gives you a feel for how much wheel inertia contributes to total resistance.

I once had somebody tell me that the placebo effect is real. Yeah, it may be all in your head, but it can still affect your performance more than the numbers on paper would predict. It's like the great Yogi Berra said: "90 percent of the game is half mental."

But you don't need to buy new equipment to effect the mental part...

I think it helps. If you THINK the new fancy wheels will make you go faster, they will. If you're convinced your normal wheels are heavy and slow, you will be heavy and slow. Also, the new equipment does help motivate you to get out and train, at least for a while.........

I'm pretty immune to this effect when it comes to bikes. Maybe I'm too literal with respect to my numbers. I've been on some deep tubulars, and really, my legs felt the same that day. Those wheels are certainly faster, but nothing I could feel from the saddle.

I didn't think getting hit by a truck would make me go faster... but it did (~3 months later). Still trying to figure that one out...

I think I'm immune from placebo induced increases. If I go as hard as I can... cross-eyed, coughing up blood, and legs pedaling squares... equipment is far from my mind.

Spin up is all in your head but better cornering and more comfort is most definitely not. IT gets better with better tires. Though I have never heard of Vittoria Challenge tubulars before. But cheap tub's are worse than even cheap clinchers imho.

They likely would have helped you not crash Saturday! Sorry, had to do it. I'm kidding. Get well soon and take it easy!

So, yes, on paper lighter weight shouldn't make much of a difference. In real life I think it makes a difference. I can't prove it. Please, some math/physics major try and prove it using numbers and such.
maybe their computing it all wrong...
maybe wrong formulas???
The wright brothers couldn't fly a plane before when
they found out, that the mathematical standard formula they were following and so as everybody was
wrong.
the next year they threw that formula, started from scratch and built their own wind tunnel
and their plane flew and flew.

... I have change to heavier tires and tubes, due to always flat. Now, I am 10 minutes slower to go to work.

You're point might have some validity if the model hadn't been verified before publication and re-verified numerous times in the intervening years. A little homework goes a long way.
