2012 Bill Bone Pro-AM & more..

The BBPA series starts up again this weekend in Homestead at the motor speedway.

Anyone going?

I booked both days in the all new "30+" category.

Also, on the following weekend there is a "sunday at the park" track racing series. I did the first one this past sunday and it was a blast.

I may do the March 17th race since I'll be down in the 305 hanging out with the god children at the Youth Fair anyway. Or maybe I'll just go do the Pinecrest World Championships.

fordfasterr,

I'll be at Homestead for both the circuit and the road race. It'll be my first race weekend, so I'm pretty excited. Hopefully, I'll be able to say hi in person.

I'll be racing in Cat-5. These will be my first races ever, so I'm excited, but not too thrilled about the possibility of rain. The Weather Channel's forecast is showing a 30% chance of rain for tomorrow.

Good luck to you Pedro, and welcome to the wonderful world of racing. Don't get discouraged if you don't win, just keep showing up and trying.

kensuf, thanks for the words of encouragement. Things didn't go too well for Saturday's circuit race, I got dropped in pretty short order. I think I really need to work on my acceleration out of corners. Things went a little better for Sunday's road race, I got dropped by the main peleton; however, I was able to work with a smaller group to make it to the end. I definitely had a fun time and can't wait for my next race.

fordfasterr, how did your races go?

"Acceleration out of corners" -- you might need to work on your breaking going into corners. Really. One of things that helped me the most in crits was learning to ease off the gas, opening a slight gap going into the corner, but not hitting the brakes, and just coasting (or soft pedaling) easily back up as the accordion collapses. Here's a blog post from an old friend (and a guy who lives down in your neck of the woods) that explains it in more detail.

+1 as a crit maniac I can vouch for this. I rarely use the brakes, with the obvious exceptions of wrecks, idiots, and associated inexperience for a couple reasons:
1. It takes away smooth racing
2. I am too big to continually have to mash the pedals to get back up to speed
3. It is very inefficient

I'm sure it's mentioned in there, but being closer to the front lessens the accordion effect tremendously. But everyone wants to be in that sweet spot 5-10 riders back from the front.

I raced both days, no good results unfortunately. The 30+ field seems much stronger than the cat 3 field....

I also did the RR in Dade City (These are like mountains for flat-landers...) Finished 28th. Did not get dropped from the peloton!

Last weekend I did Rosewood in Miami Lakes, finished 11th in the P123 field with 59 riders.

Congrats on the strong finish in Miami Lakes. I believe I asked you for directions to the registration tent while you were warming up - I was in a silver F-150. My race at Miami Lakes was far from perfect, but I feel like I'm learning a lot.

My next race will be the Rosewood Series event at Vista View on March 4th.

I'm also very interested in finding out more information about the Miami race that Bill Bone has on their schedule.
