Riding like its 1990
I can't make it to many races and I wont win any either but if there was a really good shot on a monumental day maybe i'd consider it to commemorate the day and the effort. Other than that impulse buy I wouldn't need any more after that.
From what i hear, its so easy to copy a basic proof online that its good enough for most facebook bragging rights anyway so very few buy them.

I'm a fairly amateur photographer, but when I shoot races I go in knowing I am not going to make the money my time is worth. I usually put the low res pics up on my site for free and tell people to email me for high res pics. I usually get one or two people email me per race.
When they email me, I don't set a price. I just tell them to paypal (or mail me a check) for what they feel the photo is worth. I've received anywhere from $5 to $20 per photo.
I do shoot running races with a different payment format, though. I charge a flat fee for those and simply hand the raw images to the company I work for on a memory card. They take care of the editing and distribution from there.

Making a kilometer blurry
Who said anything about low rez for less then 10 bucks? I was referring to hi rez photos. Checked one of the galleries from last race. For 1mega pixel it's 13 bucks, for 4 mega pixel it's 59 buck. For 13 dollar one just general levels adjustments should be included. It doesn't take all that much time. For the 59 dollars, I do expect a more expert touch.

I bought a few pics from the Tampa crit where I rode the lead moto a couple of years ago because no one who races takes pictures of the dork on the motorcycle. The photographer isn't just concentrated on the racers, so he takes pics of other stuff.
Other than that, there are enough people who share race pics (myself included) to pretty much get a couple from every race.
