I agree with the not overthinking it part. Most flats on the course are pinch flats. Do your best not to slam into rocks and holes and you'll be OK. If you get into a situation where you can't help slamming into stuff, c'est la vie.

Last year a friend was in a break of 3 at mile 50 with 2 minutes on the field and flatted. He was carrying a tube. He changed it fast enough to catch the end of the peloton as they went by.

Thats impressive.

I'm running 23mm wheels/23mm tires and thinking I could probably get away with a little lower pressure and still not get any pinch flats.

Do you guys run same pressure as road then to keep the pinch flats away? Anyone running 23mm wheels?

You're running clinchers correct?

I ran Open Pros (19mm) for Rouge-Roubaix with 90 psi front/100 psi rear using 700x25s, and 85/95 with 700x28s. No problems with pinch flats...the only problem was with the engine. I weigh ~185.

my wife and I were in the book store in lake placid with a friend that's visiting. Wiggins' new book is out as is the Mecrckx book (both by William Fotheringham). I showed them a shirtless picture of Wiggins and said 'this is why I'm too fat.' They agreed I was nuts. Wiggins has an hour glass shape. That's tough to do on a guy with no pecs.

Bradley Wiggins is 6'3" 70kg during tour form. That's only 2.05lbs/inch. I'm 6'0" 62.5kg and this is not the lightest I've been. 1.92lbs/inch. Scary to think about. :O

Where are you guys staying? The Johnny Cake races are just 30 minutes south of Albany on Saturday morning if you're looking for something else to do.

It's your basic 1 mile, 6% paved road climb, not especially interesting on video to be honest.

doesn't appear to be the kind of course where power-to-weight will be as relevant as raw power. i could be wrong, but the climbs just don't look long enough to shed anyone good, regardless of weight.

there will probably be tons of folks on the course on friday!

sorry we won't be going head-to-head. was looking forward to racing with/against you.
