Isn't crashing half the point of cyclocross? The other half being tutus of course.

Fwiw it doesn't seem like it needs to be 11-speed specific, my campy PT from 2009 works fine with Campy 11.

I don't know **** about Campy, nor cycling for that matter, any direction would be great...

Direction? Forward is usually best, for a start!

Sarcasm breeds contempt and is recourse for the mentally weak... :P

I think you should read Grolby's 'cross rant from a couple weeks back.

That was the hardest part of this season. I had no motivation, and just didnt work towards my goals. I got 4 upgrade points, versus the 35 i wanted, and i probbaly will not get asked onto a bigger team for next season (ships already sailed). It sucks to look back and see that i "wasted" a season, but i enjoyed my summer of just being a kid. It was the best summer i've had in a long time.

Then you didn't waste your season.

Read at the time, re-read (along with Ex's excellent explanation of cross). Still think it's a silly sport, although it does look like fun and I might try it sometime down the road.

At the cross race my team attended this weekend there was a Settler's of Catan tournament, and best combined finish with the actual bike racing and the board game got a big trophy. I like the game, just not sure how I feel about mixing it with bike racing.

Is nothing sacred??

Also, I'm sick as balls right now. Kind of sucks getting sick after a rest week. Too much traveling, and too much school. I always get sick this first month back at school, my body just isnt ready for the germs yo

hammy56 09-09-13 03:36 PM

Hmmm. Never had trouble with my Acura TSX before, but here at 85K miles, it seems a tooth got busted off a gear somehow in the final drive assembly of the manual transmission. Prolly looking at $2k. :crash:

pjcampbell 09-09-13 05:17 PM

Hmmm I was just thinking of getting a Kawa KLX250S (or similar) with a bike rack on it for riding to far-ish away races (say 2-3 hours max, mostly backroads from here, so not much more than 50mph). Part of the criteria though is that I want it light enough to throw on a hitch mount rack to bring it around when we travel. Would this work? :)

Flatballer 09-09-13 05:19 PM

How exactly does that happen? I've never heard of that being something people break. Out of warranty I assume? Have you been drag racing it or something?

pjcampbell 09-09-13 05:28 PM

On the category versus time versus work vs life thing... With a full time+ job, family, I'm tapped out at like 5-6 hours a week. Usually up to 3 rides/week is fine. I'm cat3 fodder but on a long climb I'm probably a bit better, because that is what I train for. I'm sure I could train smarter i.e. more specifically, and do better in road races, crits, etc. but on 5-6 hours, even if I cobbled points together over the years, I don't think I should upgrade given time constraints.

Ygduf 09-09-13 05:44 PM

man, back at work today and I'm sore, itchy, and my head is swimming. Thinking I did concuss myself a bit.

MDcatV 09-09-13 06:25 PM

i don't understand the contempt for cyclocross. for all the negative nellys, have you actually raced cyclocross? it's a good way to keep some intensity and competitive fire in the belly in the early/late fall, which is "tweener" time for road season in most of the country (i.e. too early to train for next year, but road season is over for he current year). i've raced a few seasons of it a few years ago, but since having kids and preferring road racing, decided to stop as i wanted to dedicate more time to family. cx definitely helped my bike handling and enhanced my ability to suffer, that sport is fricken' hard.

Hahaha. I was on fire that day. I should get that framed or something.

grolby 09-09-13 06:40 PM

Oh, and cyclocross rules. I'm probably going to focus most of my training on crits and cyclocross in the future and not worry about specific training for road races.

shovelhd 09-09-13 06:52 PM

I have nothing against cyclocross, I just have no use for it in my life.

Yes, but I would at least step up to something like the drz400 supermoto. You have to wind the 250's out pretty tough to get them going very fast, and I know I wouldn't want to ride one for 3 hours. I had a plated yz450f that was too much fun. I got rid of it before the local cops figured out where I lived

Not to sound defensive or anything, but which cycling discipline isn't silly?

Ygduf 09-09-13 07:32 PM

I've been told cat 2 road racing is serious stuff. Serious.

echappist 09-09-13 07:48 PM

doesn't mean it couldn't be seriously silly or silly and serious
