You can make top-notch beer with extracts. Use some adjunct grain like crystal (depending on style). Get a good starter yeast culture going with a fresh packet of liquid yeast.

yea, I have been culturing and saving yeast from batches and that stuff ferments quite well! Enjoying a nice stout rotation now and then back to some ales!

My wife is at a funeral with several friends right now. It's for a 9 year old girl whose little sister was in my daughters class last year. The family was coming home from dinner at the local family hangout in downtown and was t-boned by a full size pickup driven by an 18 year old who ran a red light on Saturday. The girl died Christmas morning. The dad is in a medically induced coma. The mother was driving and the father was behind her and the daughter behind him in a Sienna mini van. 8PM on the Saturday before Christmas. This has really shaken up a lot of folks. It could have been any of us. Just heading home from dinner and bam, life as you know it is over.

Stay safe everyone and give your loved ones an extra hug every now and then.

quick terminology question: is it "dial it up to 550 watts with my massive guads", or, "drope the hamer and dial it up to 550 with my massive guads" ?

thanks

I believe the quote is 400w, not 550. But on the internet, everyone's watts are higher.

The reference came from a post where a BF member dialed it up to 400 watts and droped the hamer on some unsuspecting rider in Central Park. I recently met the author of that post...nice guy.

2 different guys referenced there. R600DuraAce is your Central Park 400 watt guy and the author of "drope the hamer" was ryanf.

If I had a hamer*,
I'd hamer in the morning.
I'd hamer in the evening
All over this land.

I'd hamer out MUP's,
I'd hamer out hybrids
I'd hamer out little kids
with handlebar streamers
all over this land.

*If you're too young to get this reference, please refer to the video below

It doesn't rain much here and the news always makes a big deal about it, even a little sprinkle gets "Storm watch, team coverage". Today rain was predicted and this time they weren't wrong. A bunch of us started the club ride with 40 degree but dry conditions. Soon the sky started pissing on us, so I went home.
At least I was on the old bike after cleaning the other one last week.

Trying to remember what riding outside is like. I did 1 hour on the trainer this morning. Puts me at about 4 hours for the month. I don't think I'll be a factor in the spring series.

I was on the bike 10 hours last weekend then a couple more Tuesday. Since I am the only driveability guy at work I can't leave early like in years past. Now they are trying to keep me from taking vacation. I have to get in the saddle time when I can and it seems to have stopped raining so maybe I'll go back out. That will freak out Mrs. John if I do.

yea, i was out today in 35 F and snow, it sucked. Wished I had picked the rollers but snow beats rain. Nothing had stuck to the ground yet. Ordered some new rain/wind booties and rain/wind legwarmers though so I should be good for the strava base mile challenge next month.
