Got the screws out. Needle nose vice grips are my tool of the year. PB Blaster is a perpetual podium finisher.

I gotta try track before I am too old to pedal (getting close). It would probably be a good fit for me.

I'm just finishing up doing my taxes and looks like I'll have some spare dough (ugh always get a return even though I try not to). Dick Lane Velodrome is like 10 miles from my house so I might be able to swing by a few times a month.

You guys think I should grab myself a track bike and start doing some track races? Good summer fun during the week? Good training? (Keep in mind my 5s is <900w and I weigh 135lbs, should still be fun though? Prob can use my strengths somehow?)
I spent a summer making a 3+ hour drive each way on Wed nights to do track. I'd get home at 1-2 AM (after stopping to eat somewhere on the way home). It was a blast and it wasn't even a good track.

I raced a steel frame I bought for $90 back in 1989 or so, put it together with whatever I could find. Ended up buying new cranks for it but otherwise it's "vintage". Like "wow, that's a cool vintage bike!". Um it's my only one.

Track is good. One tip - if you race both then use the same crank lengths. When I started using 170s on the road bike (vs 175s) things went much better on the 170 equipped track bike. I lost just enough speed to not win the keirin, not sprint well, etc. I only had about 2 weeks on the 170s before my bad crash of 2009 and that ended my season.

You'd think someone like me would be good on the track and I was okay, definitely better than a beginner due to knowing how to ride in a group, but you need endurance to contest races over a 3 hour time frame. I was dying when we had back to back races and a lot of times I'd get shelled before the finish. I finished some absurd amount of time down in the pursuit, I think 1:50 or so for 3 km. I never broke 35 mph in a sprint either. The biggest thrill was spinning the roller on the back of the moto warming up before the keirin (which I won handily that night). I had a hard time getting within 3 feet of the next wheel due to not being able to coast.

It's one thing to know the technical side but another to be able to understand what the business need is and to be able to translate that to the technical world. When I started, finance worked out of a ginormous Excel workbook they called "The Book" with umpteen hundred tabs and about 14,700 VLOOKUPs. Our group created forecasting and planning tools that functioned with our data warehouse for headcount, expense, revenue and cost allocation. The SAP BPC folks scratched their heads when we were looking into what direction to head with this BPR project. At that point we made the decision to create what we needed in house. Now most everything is automated or requires no manual record keeping or god awful excel reporting on the side.

On another note- is there more cold & sinus garbage going around? I started feeling lousy last night and have a full blown head cold tonight. Time changed and I still can't ride.

Yeah, I have a neti pot. Problem being nothing would flow through my nose it's so clogged up right now.

TMI-->...and unlike that pic it never comes out the other side without running everywhere.

Out riding tonight...Freezing my ass off!

Up ahead I see a person walking down the road with a white fluffy, which I think is a dog, but turns out to be a lamb... The dude was walking it like you would walk a dog...

Hmm, don't think I know him. Or Tony Scott.

I'm a bit iffy on renting bikes, I've always had knees that are super sensitive to position changes. I'd much rather pay a few bucks and get something fit by my coach if possible. Track bikes are pretty cheap anyways, at least at entry-mid level it looks like.

Hmm..I'll have to think about it a few days. I think it'd be a fun way to get some top end training in during the week without doing vo2 and 1min intervals every week over and over.

On a side note, cat 2 upgrade was just officially approved!

I don't know if it's a "side". If you have a track within a reasonable driving distance you're foregoing a heck of a lot of fun not using it. Great skills sharpener and great training in a variety of ways.

And my midget friend your size was an alternate to the Canuck Olympic track team.
