I was told my road bike looked like a cross bike at a team ride this winter. I generally like to keep it clean though. The guy who said it was riding outside fire the first time all year though, so I'm not sure how much his opinion counts.

I only clean the bike for races. After rain rides, I clean the drivetrain and re-oil. Seems to work, and cassettes last for years and years.

Yeah I tend to slack on even cleaning the drivetrain and re-oiling. I ride in the rain 2-3 times a week probably on average. Everytime I take it into a shop they go, "wow, that is the worst chain and cassette I have ever seen." I can usually get 2 chains for every cassette though in actuality. But I do some damage on them and I leave the chain on too long, which makes it even worse.

Funny thing is, if I spent 5 seconds taking care of it and replaced my chain when I should, everything would probably be fine. Sigh.

Hahahaha!! ^

I only lube my cassette/chain after rain rides if I'm not to lazy. I only clean when it's nice out, but usually when it's nice out I don't need to clean, after rain rides a lot to though. I havn't changed anything on my drivetrain for almost 2 years now..still works with (very) little maitenance.

Ps. I probably couldn't name over 10 things on a bike.

I try to show up to group stuff with a clean bike. Except if it's winter, then as long as it's quiet good enough. I'd lose training time tryign to keep my bike clean all the time, eff that.

Tried 3, 2, 1 intervals. 3 min on, one min rest, 2 min on, one min rest, 1 min on, one min rest. Intensity increases as time decreases. “All out.” Followed by a round of 30 s sprint 30 s rest. My legs are feeling it now.

6(3'+3'). Finished the last one about 3 miles from my house and had to slog home so it was a good set.

I was up early and ran 30 minutes today. I've got a hot spot on my right foot that I need to watch. I'm not used to running mileage and my body is complaining a bit. It's *probably* good for me, though.

I'm at Road Atlanta this week. Looking at the track makes me think of the TTT they had here a couple years ago. Must have been a total blood bath.

What about your chain?? If not me thinks you are going to need some new parts eventually

You don't need to fuss over these things, but there are some general maintenance things you must do. Lubing your drivetrain and staying on top of chain wear is one of those.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program....

I rode my bike for 2hrs last night with wearing only shorts and a jersey. I was actually warm when I climbed out of the valley. Wind was a pain, but that's par for the course around here. It's recovery week so it was basically an endurance ride with some efforts thrown in...Mainly due to the wind...Legs felt a bit heavy, but that makes sense since I had a massage Monday, did a short recovery ride Tuesday and was off on Wednesday.

I'm sure they'll be back to life come race day on Sunday...

Oh yay, the trainer works just fine. Hip feels nifty when pedaling even though walking sucks, which is proof that God invented the Bicycle because foot travel is for Plebes.

Any suggestions in regards to keeping back muscles balanced over next 6 weeks? Supporting myself one handed is definitely going to lead to muscle imbalances.

We have a circuit race at Road Atlanta (in reverse) every year during the summer. That hill like 20 times is the suck.

Here's my strava file from last year in the P123:

Working through this collarbone fracture. I rode almost two hours just two days after the crash. I had to ride with one arm while clutching the chest of my jacket with my bad arm. I was pretending that I did not have an injury and carrying on but the reality soon set in.

So, I basically cut my riding time in half for a week and limited myself to just the spin bike then went out on Monday to see what I could do. I can stand to climb for very short hills and did not try any sprints but I was able to grind out some decent overall power numbers. Shoulder hurt so bad afterwards so I iced up and took off a few more days after that.

Went out last night on my flat bar MTB to see how things felt and the shoulder/collarbone is improving. It's not 100% healed in 13 days but no real weaknesses just pain that improves as I ride and of course swelling and pain afterwards. I am able to brake hard (one groundhog and two squirrels), and can handle the bike with no issues. I have a race tomorrow and am still determining if I am OK to do it.

The problem is that I intended to ride easy last night and my legs still did not seem fully recovered from Monday's ride but I wound up cranking into the wind for most of it and really toasted my legs more than I wanted to. I made great power but wanted to save that for tomorrows race.

Should I skip my 1 hour leg opener routine tonight? It's five 10 second sprints and three 1 minute TT efforts with plenty of rest in between. I am thinking I should skip tonight and just do half of the routine on my warm up lap tomorrow.

Any tips?

Yeah, put the bike away, or at least stick to one-armed trainer riding. You're not helping yourself. This is not one of those injuries that you push through the pain to heal it.

If you crash again (likely in your condition) you could really fark yourself up.

Tough week in the house. Haven't even put the front wheel on the bike after taking it off the car Sunday night and I didn't even move it out of the way to put the car in the garage. I may go into this Sunday with no hours from last Sunday.
