...while i'm disappointed in my lack of achievements on the bike, I am in no way disappointed in the other aspects of my life. This year has shown me that there is more to life than just winning bike races.
That's a good thing to learn at this point in your life. Shoot, you might even be growing up. ;)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Easy day today. Might break out the CX bike tomorrow.

Club TT night... Fricken hot here in Southern Ontario (90F).

Tonight was the flatter TT and I was feeling pretty dead, but again the legs responded I set a PB. I think it's more getting use to the TT bike and dialing in the fit then it is gaining raw power/fitness. Whatever it is, it feels good to be making progress. The couple weeks of base and week of riding in Quebec is starting to pay off...

I just rolled around with a group of guys, nothing too hard. This season has been a bit of a trail in terms of how to cope with preforming poorly, and not meeting expectations of both my peers and myself. Sorry to hear that dude.

Could it just be a case of being burned out? It's that time of year after all..

Amen brother!

Got to ride in the mountains yesterday. I suck, but the David Mountains in Texas were a joy. Reminds me a lot of the Front Range in Colorado, and similar elevation. Slightly less vegetation, but still pretty similar to the foothills in the Denver/Boulder area. Much of it is pretty steep, actually.

Great group ride last night. Final hard efforts before Cascade this weekend.
2:27, 3000ft and 188 TSS. Was nice to feel good.

I enjoy just cruising around on a bike much more than I do hard training rides. I like racing but nothing beats a day outside enjoying the scenery with good friends.

Sometimes those are good just to clear my head. If I have an early crit or something I usually race then just kind of ride around aimlessly for a while with my PM turned off. Bonus points if I find a doughnut shop to stop into

rbart4506 07-17-13 07:38 PM

Almost 2hrs tonight with 5x3min intervals thrown in...

It was hot...I drank a lot!

Tomorrow will be hill repeats in the same heat, that will be interesting...

Oh, I passed someone wearing your kit and thought it sort of looked liked you.

1.5hr w/ 1x60min @ threshold.

It was storming so cut the ride short after I decided I was lucky enough I dodged the 100 lightning strikes I saw or so. Went out to do 3x20min, but felt good after 20min so kept going to 30min. Felt good at 30min so decided to just push it all the way to full 60min. Funny thing is, I still felt good at 60min but knew I needed to shut her down. I felt stronger and stronger as the effort went on. ZO of the Quarq was 49 at start, 40 at finish (which should add another 3w of drift). Ended up doing 5w over what my estimated threshold was, and this was not a test, just an interval...like I said, was barely tired at finish! So decent day considering my legs felt like meh recently.

Nice fitness gains... bad news is that you didn't just ride 60' at threshold. You rode 60' at your old threshold. Time for a test!

TMonk 07-18-13 08:19 AM

1x60' at threshold???? ughhhh

and here I am kinda dreading the 2x20's im about to put in. time to HTFU.
on that note.... here I go!

Truth! At least bumping the estimated threshold for the time being since it's obviously now as low as I expected. I'm still not where I was in the spring yet though, but definitely close. Unfortunately now I'm a fatty and 8lbs heavier than I was in the spring too. Won't know how much that effects me until I race in the mountains this weekend.

pjcampbell 07-18-13 09:18 AM

my spin on these vo2max interval is 2x8' with 8' recovery @ 118%.

http://www.cycleops.com/training/tra...-climbing.html

I like this

These are difficult intervals (some of the toughest) so come into the workout motivated and ready to suffer. The payoff is that you will be a more powerful, faster bike rider. Imagine you are the one racing up the Mur de Huy with the taste of blood in your mouth and the podium is within your grasp! If you have snot coming out of your nose, or drool coming out of your mouth at the end of the last few intervals you are doing them correctly. For the goal-oriented athlete, there can be a tremendous amount of satisfaction in the successful completion of such a difficult workout within the prescribed zone 5 wattages.

valygrl 07-18-13 09:50 AM

LT test today. LT is lower than in April. I'm doing something wrong. So disheartening.

rankin116 07-18-13 10:24 AM

Go easy on yourself, maybe just an off day. Are you talking LTHR test? Just because your HR is down doesn't necessarily mean your power is too.

valygrl 07-18-13 10:27 AM

No, it was power. HR down as well, though. TSB was positive, but maybe the heavy weight lifting on Mon/Wed took it's toll. I'm not surprised, though, race and training performance is in line with new test number.

Jandro 07-18-13 10:35 AM

Fast club ride this morning.

2'40"; the majority of it in Z3/4. 4300ft. Traditional birthday beer at the top of the climb with some of the best riders I know. Up there in the "best mornings" category. Legs continue to feel stronger and I'm starting to be the one that drops rather than the one being dropped.

ovoleg 07-18-13 10:43 AM

got a coach, hopefully will suck less next year.
