Basically, I've got the time, I'm having fun, and aside from like one or two races I'm not doing anything til February anyway. I'm handling the volume fine, and I'm still getting in intervals and getting faster, so no harm done, aside from turning my taint into a piece of beef jerky.

My back freakin' hurts. I wish I weren't so stupid...I did this crap to myself. Rode easy today. As long as I'm not putting out any power it feels ok on the bike. A long climb would suck, though.

During my ride I had an unexplained tire blow out. I keep a boot with me, so it wasn't that big of a deal. It was a big blow out, though...about the size of a dime. It was a hell of a thump on the way home.

Nice, I would think you could do pretty well in some hilly races with those numbers.

Thanks. That would be the hope. Hilly road races and somewhat technical and/or hilly crits are what i'll be going after.

There is probably some ways to go between me and the top-rung cat-3s, but then again, i have an off season to improve and can sometimes compensate with better racing acumen.

I race like a dummy, that's one reason I like cross.

Anyway, hit up the sketch-feat Tuesday Night Worlds last night, I wanted to get more a tempo threshold workout, so tried to avoid chasing attacks and whatnot. Went after a couple anyway, but mission accomplished. Today I felt wrecked in the morning. I've been fighting fatigue all month, it's really hard to string together solid training weeks when I just end up wiped out the day after not very hard workouts. I don't really know what's going on there, but it's frustrating.

Well, you did have a long season, not to mention new job, moving, and possibly residual stress from CX racing last year. Might not be a bad time to just relax and recover.

Are you getting enough protein post-workouts?

I probably saw you last night. I was driving the other way down South Street when the group flew past. Someone I follow on Strava apparently had a pretty lengthy attack.

I've always wondered if that ride was sketchy. I live five minutes from the start, but I've never gone because I do most of of my riding in the morning (also, I don't do many hard group rides since I hurt my back).

Sprints. Hit new peak, 5s, 10s, and 15s power PRs. I felt really good this morning.

My best one.

All of the above are probably contributory factors. On the one hand, I want to rest, on the other... I love cyclocross! But I don't think killing the cross season like I'd originally planned is really in the cards, so I'd better manage my expectations for the season a bit. I'll have to take a bigger break in the middle of next year if I want to come into cross season really firing on all cylinders.

Yeah, based on the two times I've done it, that ride is pretty sketchy. Good for a workout, yes, but it's an undisciplined group at rush hour, and there aren't any climbs that are really long and hard enough to separate the wheat from the chaff. So the hairy leg brigade mostly stays attached for the whole ride.

That's what I assumed. Of course, I'd be the chaff hanging on for dear life. If my back is feeling better next year, I'll try to show up a few times.

I ride that route regularly with a group in the mornings, and I honestly hate riding it in the evenings, even solo. The combination of narrow roads and aggressive rush hour drivers is not a good one. It's much better at 5:30 a.m.

or alternatively, take off four weeks and then build back toward CX. We allneedextended breaks sooner or later

taking four weeks off seems pretty excessive. i would go insane spending that much time off the bike unless I "had" to.

It means just riding around, though not riding much at all in the first week can't hurt. No plans no goals no real training.

if recovery is hard to come by for the previous month, it's time to dial things back by quite a bit.

I am in rest mode before Boston 9/21. This means some JRA, openers, and recovery rides.

1.5hr w/ 5x1min intervals. Went really easy and just did the intervals when recovered. Starting to play around with that 10 w/kg number, hoping to maybe grab that before the end of the year.

that's a handy number to take into a race.
