Sorry to hear about your bike aaron. :(

Me too. Probably getting pulled apart as I type.

2.5 hours; half z2 half z3.

Hit a turn and saw a golden eagle descending right towards my head about 15 feet: (pic taken from net)

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...-eagle-102.jpg

He took off right after he saw my cheap Rudy Project helmet, it was one of those moments things just register a few moments after it happened. Those things are friggin massive!

Saw a coyote too, but they usually just scamper off. The time you have to worry about coyotes is when you see large ACME boxes on the road.

Ygduf 10-14-13 04:35 PM

you took that picture?

furiousferret 10-14-13 04:37 PM

No, I took that off the net. (Edited original post) That was pretty much the view I got from the thing. It followed me for about 5 miles then took off when I tried to snap a photo.

8K views, photo taken in 2007 (EXIF). Nope.

I wonder if the eagle has learned that rodents sometimes scamper away from bicycles on the roadside, allowing a targeting system lock. The grackles in our neighborhood know that lawn mowers freak out all the insects in the grass.

I tineyed after, but too lazy to delete

If I were to guess he thought the red streaks on my helmet were something else; just before it happened its view was obstructed by bushes.

Maybe FF is a smaller rider, and the eagle was trying to decide whether he'd make a good lunch. Sheep ranchers out west used to shoot eagles on sight, since the eagles had developed a taste for mutton; an eagle would grab a sheep in its talons, fly up a few hundred feet and drop it to kill it, then chow down.

I should have stayed fat. Well I still am fat, just not Retired Lemond fat. More of an offseason Ullrich.

Did 5 pull ups at the playground after Junior was done running around. This will probably be a new thing for me. I know I could do 10 when I was lighter, 2 when I was heavy.

My gf's grandma was from Norway, and had this story about a bird (eagle?) stealing a baby. A baby!

I mean I guess it's possible but I always wondered if this was actually true.

kensuf 10-14-13 05:53 PM

Did 10 wind sprints while running tonight. My legs are sore.

Ygduf 10-14-13 05:54 PM

there's videos of eagles stealing small goats and dropping them off cliff sides. I'm sure somewhere in the annals of human history a small crawling child has been attacked by a predatory bird.

Imagine a baby crawling around in a backyard. Thinking as an eagle, I'm getting hungry already.

5xWRI™s today. First time in six months. Luckily it was raining really hard, so my wired PT stopped showing power before I started the set. Sensations were fine, but I'm sure power was crap.

w/out any data, I ended up timing them at 1' by counting pedal strokes. "200" and done. Talk about motivation to keep the cadence high!

Didnt have my bike so I did a workout at the gym after coaching.
20 relaxed-muscle jumps w weights (from sitting)
15 dynamic box jumps w weights
a ton of one leg panel mat jumps
stomach routine (flutter kicks, sideways flutter, sideways crunches, vups)
repeat all
straight arm shoulders raises 3 directions
some pike holds, dips and tuck planges on the p bars.
A few circles on pommel horse

Short, but I hadn't eaten in 5 hours so I couldn't do much. still felt good

kensuf 10-15-13 05:56 AM

I could barely walk into my office from my car this morning. I think I pulled something. Advil .

Jandro 10-15-13 11:25 AM

2h, mostly z2 with a bit of z3.

(maintaining z2 is hard on hills when my low gear is a 39x26 :|)

mattm 10-15-13 11:39 AM

Two hours this morning, trying to keep it in z2.

waterrockets 10-15-13 01:08 PM

5X5' hill repeats. Ouch.

Substitute hills for long, flat sections of Great Highway and that will be my morning tomorrow. Probably more like 8 of 'em though.

jsutkeepspining 10-15-13 06:14 PM

1 hour 646 kj and 24 tss. Nice to relax after a huge weekend of riding.

There's not really any flat in town, but I do enjoy some of the more gently rolling stuff for 5' intervals at times, instead of hills. I don't think I could make use of 8 though -- sounds harsh.

Yeah we'll see how I feel around #6 . That stretch of road was repaved a month or so ago; it's wonderfully smooth and pretty much car-free at 6AM. Perfect of interval work.

rbart4506 10-16-13 06:23 AM

Last somewhat hard ride last night before the trip. Did close to 2hrs of endurance with 4 trips up the various mountain (hehehe) accesses...

Might do a quick recovery ride tonight, but I still need to pack the wife's bike.

One of your company's folks just reached out to me again. One of the most frustrating things in my career has been location -- just don't wanna move. Other than that, I'm pretty well aligned :-/
