It does.

How many calories do you think you burn for an hour of swimming?

Any vigorous physical activity from walking to swimming to cycling creates fatigue and training stress. You need to account for that when you plan your training program. And you need to consider the relative impact of aerobic vs. anaerobic exercises.

I've been doing a pretty intense 1 hour masters swim 1-2 times a week. Starting out I was going 100 TSS. As I adapted and got more efficient I've dropped that a bit. I feel the stress factors are much higher when you start an activity and go through the adaptation phase. You're using really inefficient muscles, you'll be sore, tired and mentally taxed.

Do not underestimate the impact that the mental side brings to the table.

I have a 3-5 tss forearm drill I do about 4x/week, whenever I can, uh, squeeze one in. Sometimes I alternate hands and it leaves me sore, that's on the 5tss side of things.

just not on raceday.

Tried riding tonight, but couldn't concentrate...

Only lasted through the warm up and couldn't get into it so I hopped off.

He mentioned walking as a vigorous physical activity, so I think you meant du-athlete.

Went to the gym today, did a bunch of leg exercises and some arm and chest stuff; I have to maintain at least of modicum of the gun show.

Went to do back, but there were some dudes with arms bigger than my quads on the lat machines. With the amount of protein shakes and gym bags laying around, they weren't going anywhere for awhile.

You can always ask to work in with them... or do pull ups. Or lat rows on the bench with a dumbell. Or both.

Yesterday's weather was pretty good. Felt good and just focused mentally on sub threshhold work. Passed some guy up La Tuna Cyn that was going really really slow with no lights and no helmet.

I was like "bro you serious?" in my mind but I just rode by and said hello. He got on my wheel cause I could feel his presence and after 5 mins he was still there. Another 5 mins goes by and I don't see him, I must've dropped him. I rode down and didn't see him...there's a MTB trail nearby, I don't think he had a CX bike but maybe? Offroadin on a CX bike with no lights in the dark...I'm not so sure this guy survived.

you put out big watts but avg speeds are always super low. For a very similar ride my watts will be 50-100 lower but my avg speed will be nearly identical. Not sure what your position is bro...

looking like its gonna be another MTB at lunch day. yay.

only problem is the filtration loop im running at work has a super low flow rate.... must finish on time.... after troubleshooting all connections and looking for air leak, my next strategy will be to raise my voice and get stern with it. sometimes it workx

Maybe that is what I should try with my 'air leaks'...

Sorry to bring this up again, but this is right on. I'm still learning to manage training stress. Checked TSS and holy crap:

Weekend was 170+280=450 TSS. My supposed "recovery" day was ~75+90=165 if I count the hard (albeit short) swim. 615 in 3 days, no wonder I could barely turn the pedals! Then yesterday was ~35 TSS, and I had no problem commuting at threshold after swim this morning.

Just read this.
My experience has been the bigger the guy, the nicer they are.
As we all know I am pretty intense and look mean as hell when I workout but am very polite and friendly when not amping myself up for something. I had a guy a bit ago tell me I should get a shirt that says I'm not as mean as I look
