2hrs on the bike, mostly endurance/tempo.

Man, even when you're going WAY slower, you're still suffering just as hard as when you were flying. My goal was to get to a switchback with a good view to take a pic(I like to take pics dont hate), and every turn I wasn't satisfied so I kept climbing. After about halfway up the climb I just decided to try and summit, BAD idea. I forgot how steep the climb was and I was climbing out of the saddle barley moving and my legs were barely firing after awhile. Had to cut it short about 80% of the way up because I was getting super hot, tired, and I was worried I was going to tweak my bad leg and be out of commission for awhile.

I'm seeing some super high HR's for me. Typically tempo used to be about 260 W @ 160'ish BPM. Now it's 220W @ 175-180 BPM. I thnk it's going to take awhile for my body to learn not to suck.

Carrying an extra 20 lbs def does not help matters. Hopefully all this fat starts to come off over the fall. I missed the whole summer cycling funanza, oh well, glad to be alive and riding still!

Feel better everyone!

Matt - Do what you can, as you can. It'll come back soon.

ovoleg - When I first started back after six weeks off the bike, my HR did the same thing. It was back to pre-crash levels in a couple of weeks.

shovelhd 08-25-14 04:58 AM

ovo, my HR is in the same place. When you lose your top end, that's what happens. It takes work to get it back, but it will come back. I lose it every year in the offseason. It's to be expected.

50 miles, 2,500k feet climbing, average 20mphr...102 deg HOT. Practicing on a road race loop that's coming up in Sept. It will be my first road race so not sure what to expect. All i know is although overweight i'm enjoying hills.

Heat makes everything so much harder; but we do race in it so that has to count for something.

I thought I noticed high HR as well when riding after injury, and I don't normally pay any attention to HR. I thought I might just be imagining it and noticing more on the trainer but maybe not.

True. I think I got used to it. On my 5pm commute home (15-18miles one way) for the past 2 months the average temp has been 95 degrees. Today it's 102 degree, thankfully i have no intervals planned.

I may have to set up the trainer this week, my son is sick and his daycare is closed wed-fri, coupled with my wife's job (school admin) kicking into gear and some late days for her, so there's about zero chance I can hit the road before Saturday.

Went out after work and tried to hammer a bit, except the power is of course way down from post-accident.. still I'm hurting (in the normal bike way) and pushing through it, so I figure if I just keep doing that I'll get back to where I was.

Also, there was some kid in a t-shirt that wouldn't get off my wheel at one point, so I had to hit the brakes.. then of course I later end up on his wheel, and didn't want to go around him only to be chased down, so I slowed down again.. annoying.

TMonk 08-25-14 09:55 PM

was he riding a sw8 fixie?

Been sick since we got back from vacation. Up all night coughing. Feel ok during the day, but can't seem to sleep upright enough to feel ok at night. Anyhoo, I'll get back on the bike today and see how it goes.

furiousferret 08-26-14 08:37 AM

Yardwork on my day off, now my hammys are sore. Pulling weeds is more of a workout than cycling.

ShutUpLegs 08-26-14 08:57 AM

Active recovery yesterday, trying to keep the power in Zone 1. Today is 3x90" efforts to get ready for last race of the season.

aaronmcd 08-26-14 12:33 PM

1:45 this morning with an hour of fast group ride. Hard. Over threshold normalized for half hour. 95% for the hour.

caloso 08-26-14 12:57 PM

2x20's with a 2' kick (I try to do the last 2 minutes at 105-110%)

TheKillerPenguin 08-26-14 02:18 PM

Sound like you are ready for a road race. :)
Hope you get/feel feeling better.

Creatre 08-26-14 06:34 PM

1.5hr at endurance and had no leg pain!! Hope I don't jinx myself but that's an extremely good sign.

furiousferret 08-26-14 08:37 PM

Tired, legs were sore, it was just one of those days where you weren't sure if riding was good or bad. Decided to do the TNW's and if the legs felt off I would bag it. 3 watts short of my 5m and 20 minute highs, no where near fresh.

I'm looking forward to my next test, with fresh legs I should be able to crush it by 10-20+ watts.

Almost joined the crash club today. Turned tight into a corner on a descent and my back wheel hit a small pothole and a rock, making a perfect launchpad. Since I was leaning forward and the rear wheel went up and I was balancing on my front wheel for what seemed like an eternity.

bmcphx 08-26-14 09:05 PM

Yikes. No more crashing allowed!

hack 08-26-14 09:33 PM

rode intentionally slow for like 90 minutes, kind of a recovery pace while trying to keep heart rate down.
