How detailed did you get in cleaning the dust out of the bike? I got 3 free hotel tooth brushes and worked on a lot of parts, but some of that dust is way in there.

misterwaterfall 03-05-15 10:16 PM

Where is the dust stuck? I assume you washed it which should get most of it. My bike is usually 90% clean with a well working drive train and I call that good enough.

mattm 03-05-15 10:24 PM

I don't have access to a hose here, and didn't in Chico, so I just baby-wiped it (with like 20 of them) after the rr on Saturday, then Monday/Tues I took off the cranks, chain, & der. pulleys to really get them clean.

Got most of it but I'm sure there will be some in there forever.. shoes may never get the dust out! Next year maybe booties for that..

A hose would've been nice the day-of tho.

My derailleur is still squeaking when I downshift due to the dust

Also my chain didn't muster-drop while sprinting, so that was nice.

Same on both. I actually was feeling a bit depressed for a couple days, it was weird. Better now.

Hour easyish on the TT bike last night on the trainer..trying to get time on the thing and am still playing with the fit.

Middle of a rest week, which I have conveniently been planning for the first week of each month..which happens to be when I am the busiest at work. I got home at 7pm on Wednesday, ate dinner, then ended up going to bed at 9. So it works out.

TheKillerPenguin 03-06-15 11:15 AM

Yesterday was 2.75hr maintenance ride on the trainer.
Today is 1hr super chill.
Tomorrow is like a couple of hours of derpin with some openers.
Sunday we unleash the hounds.

TheKillerPenguin 03-06-15 11:18 AM

I'm weirdly tired but this is the nature of trainer rides for me. I am so, so happy that it's going to be warm enough out to ride outdoors full time again.

Ygduf 03-06-15 11:18 AM

I get depressed the day after every race, win or lose.

We have not had good experience with BBs keeping out water - so no hose used.
Its in the allen heads and RD parts. Not noticeable when you look from far, but all that stuff used to be very clean.

Ygduf 03-06-15 11:36 AM

I have a feeling you guys would be horrified with my bikes...

hack 03-06-15 11:47 AM

post chico, i put my bike on the roof rack and drove really fast through some rain to get the dust off. put some more lube on the chain and it's running fine.

globecanvas 03-06-15 11:48 AM

I'm thinking this might be more than a 3-toothbrusher.

If I ever win a race im pretty sure I wouldn't be depressed. Although for you, you keep winning them so its no big deal!

[THE SADDEST BIKE PICTURE]

Yes, this is accurate. My greatest accomplishment this winter has been figuring out how to keep my white seat from turning gray.

1: obligatory that I mention I lose 99% of everything I enter.
2: when you do win, it becomes very very apparent that about zero people care, other than you. Which makes you really question the value of the work you put in to win.

usually by Tuesday I'm clicking the calendar to see what's up next weekend.

I use an old dish brush to knock all the dirt/sand off, a pro towel or 4 to get the chain new-looking. Let dry overnight, lube in the morning, good to go.

Well at least you know everyone in the race cares, plus maybe the spectators.

Anyway when you win I care!!

Ygduf 03-06-15 12:23 PM

yeah, it's just a grand-scheme of things. Doesn't help when p12 races are at 5pm so the promoter is packing up the tent halfway through the race and there aren't any spectators.

Cycling is just a weird thing. Takes so much work that even when it "pays off" your still just standing there in stretchy pants.

I don't get this. If I ever reach cat 2 status, I'm not sure I can race all that often. Hard to get out of the bay area at 7PM on a Sunday and hard to get motivated to drive down for a 5PM crit. Not sure why more don't have the P12 race around mid-day like Davis does.

Knock em dead killer. Sure wish I could be there. Looks like decent sized fields, too. Not a whole lot of familiar names there though .. I did recognize one junior bruiser with a bad attitude.

furiousferret 03-06-15 01:20 PM

The whole time I've been shelved the one teammate I recruited / begged to race with is upgrading to a 3 (in just 2 months of racing as a 4). He's a really fast triathlete, fast enough he's raced worlds. Chances are he'll be a 2 by the end of the year.

Its kind of a bummer but expected, really more of a motivational tool since I feel like the kid that is being held back in the 4th grade.

TMonk 03-06-15 01:32 PM

the key is in being happy with not expecting anyone else to care about you.

it's a nice surprise when someone actually does, which is seldom.
