I did got 5 watts higher average than my test from a little over a month ago. Lower and I would have been pissed, so it was a meh result.
Thanks. But it's not that impressive: it's not 7% better than my previous best, it's 7% better than my best from this time last year. And that was down from the year before, so I'm getting back to where I was a few years ago.

My PR is 6.4, at the end of a road race in which I worked my ass off. 5' PR is 5.8, so I'd think 6.4 is kind of low.

I just looked and the 6.6 is from a Tabata session. No idea what the number would be for an actual 2 minute effort, but the 6.6 is not useful (not that my numbers would be necessarily useful as a reference anyway).

Absolutely grueling sounds fine with me, and thats exactly what I've heard from talking to a few of the guys on my team that are 1/2 guys. On the plus side I've been averaging about 15 hours a week and come from a solid running background before so the grueling aspect shouldn't be so ridiculous I can't finish. Riding with others is the bigger challenge. We are fortunate enough to have excellent group rides Sat/Sun that are more or less race simulation rides with some very strong riders; when they aren't in Europe you've got guys like Danny Pate, Chad Haga, Katie Compton, etc. showing up on a regular basis.

If I find after a few of those I'm still way to nervous in a group I will elect not to race.

@gsteinb might finish crits on top of the mountain, but I don't think many have mountain-top finishes.

judging by the way GC went on sunday you don't need to ride everyone off your wheel. That was a minute. two minutes at bethel gives you a half lap (at least). That's right around when guys would be content to let you go last lap thinking it suicide.

6.6 w/kg. That was in the first P123 race I ever did, in 2011. Never got close to the front.

this is where strava is fun. I have plenty of kom's in the 1-2 minute range. we could compare. God knows how far off your power meter is after being soaked in sweat on a trainer for 9 months!

2 minutes at Bethel starts at the bottom of the hill on the previous lap. That's far enough to just be a regular attack.

SRM!!! You can calibrate those. Ask Teton.

I'm the opposite. Sweat rate of 5+ lbs/hour. I rode in an open garage in the mid 30s with multiple fans on me and sweat pooled. poooooled around me.

If my calculations are right we could clone you and stick you high up in the mountains and put you and your clones on trainers and solve the California drought pretty much immediately. Because science.

you calculations are wrong, because high vO2 + high KG + high altitude = the suck.

everest challenge confirms I suffer above 7k.

1hr VERY easy at lunch, tooling around in the 42/18t on the fixed gear (hipster). I haven't rode my fixed gear in forever! It's a nice feel. I'm estimating ~32 TSS for the hour.

On a separate, related note, I am so married to my power meter that I have reserves about doing our Tuesday Night Racing (ATRA) series that starts in April... because I don't own a track powertap, and aren't going to fork out the cash for one anytime soon. I know track would be so good for those last-lap crit style efforts, and make doing that kind of ultra high intensity work more fun.

Yea. I know this feeling. I can come in from rides, and especially runs, literally looking like I jumped into a swimming pool. God forbid I ever go somewhere with humidity.
