Trainer fail last night - I don't think my legs recovered from the weekend.

Much better tonight with 8x3' z5 on the trainer. Felt good and ended up with 1.5 hrs.

oh hey everybody

its my first winter training for cat 2

i switched jobs in october and it took a long time to figure out how to ride as much as i need to, and i also realized that i'm gonna be too busy in the late summer to try a two peak season like usual so i decided to try something totally new and push my single peak back from early may to mid june, just in time for state TT here and put all my eggs in that basket.

to that end i'm like 6 weeks behind on weight and miles and will to live.

i ventured out on the saturday shootout this weekand got my butt handed to me by guys i'm usually mixing it up with.

trying to keep my eye on the prize.

just make sure not to blow your load too early. You want to be fit, not super fit....

also i lifted yesterday. It hurt and im weak. I accept this all, and understand that my first race will be painful (if i still have the phenomena). I was still able to hit 5w/kg for a 30 minute effort last week, but i need to be able to hit these ttypes of numbers repeatedly

Did a long ride this past Saturday, then a hammer fest on Monday, then failed at my workout on Wednesday (yesterday). It was supposed to be 2x20's but ended up being 1x11~ish before I just sorta stopped pedaling. Cold and windy out, didn't even want to get up for the night before. I rested a bit and tried again, but it was a no-go.

I think it was good to at least get on the bike. The loop was nearby so it only added up to about 50 minutes riding, but while I didn't make adaptions, it wasn't as bad as just not riding at all. I feel much fresher and rested today, but today is a day for school work. I'll commute to work tomorrow and do some openers for the races this weekend. Should be good.

I had a big day planned yesterday. An hour ride to the base of a good local climb (~18 minutes up) and do that 3 times. At the top of the climb there's a little flat section before the last kicker. You have to go to the big ring to keep the power up on the flat section.

So, on my second time up I'm getting to the last little kicker section. I go to the small ring and BAM! rip my front derailler clean off the bike...mount and all. So that was pretty much the end of my workout. I pulled the FD off the bike by undoing the cage while contemplating CDR's once-every-thousand-front-shifts philosophy. Then rode home into a pretty damn stiff headwind.

Still ended with 3 hours pedaling and 2000KJ. Not too bad considering. Ultimately, a third loop would have made things clunky on time. That headwind had me going home at 13-14 mph.

Perfect example of why I only have a big ring on my bike.

Hmm, just got an email informing me that Perry-Roubaix has been rescheduled from this weekend to April 7 (for the RR). This no doubt has some people angry, but it upgrades the race for me from "no way no how" to "just might do." Now if only I could get through this stupid training week.

And a row of 11's out back? As I was rolling into that last kicker, I had the conscious thought, "I should try big-ringing this part". The 'kicker' part is about a minute and a half of climbing and it pitches up to about 10% or a little better. I don't have your tree-trunks, I need the gear to help me out.

Looks like I'm back on the old C'dale Six13 for a while. No real hardship there. It's a good bike.

3.5 hour solo ride. A huge stress creator has been eliminated and so I should be able to get the fire stoked again.

Yup. I was going out there and pretty pumped for the first TT of the season. Now it looks like I'll be headed to Greenville on Saturday for the RR. Has a 1 mile climb that we do each lap, and 7 laps. Should make things interesting.
