Social group ride today, 75 miles, 6000 ft, 200 TSS. Start out with 20' threshold on a hill a few miles in, then lots more miles, with a few shorter threshold hill efforts stuck in there that really hurt after so much riding. Ran into a crack and tore a sidewall a bit. Another rider had a boot for it so I didn't get to try out the dollar bill trick. Also one of the guys on the ride recently got 3rd place in 45-49 age group (36th overall) in Ironman Coeur d'Alene. This guy is strong and just keeps going and going like the energizer bunny.
**** that

Training crit, stayed in for most of it and then my calf locked up and I stayed off for 2 laps. Jumped on for the last lap and pounced on a break that got swallowed up a block before the finish. I'm surfing wheels better now and it shows in the power numbers, which are really low. My burst power numbers are getting higher, which is helping close gaps much quicker.

Fun and fast, but had a contact lens float out due to excessive sweat pooling in my eyes. Never had that happen before and my depth perception dropped to zero. Had to pull out and sit off the back for the last mile or two as I couldn't see well enough to be safe.

More pedaling.
Gained about 25w at threshold so far this week, even on a caloric deficit. Yay for muscle memory newb gains after a break.

My FTP didn't change my first 1.5 years racing. Didn't go up, didn't go down. I just rode lots of upper z2/lower z3 and raced. Was still able to get to cat3 though. It wasn't until I got a coach that my ftp started and continued upward.

^my ftp rarely changes much even in the off season, but all of my short term/and super long term numbers change, and how i can use them (and when) changes. But to not see any real improvement since the start of your racing career is weird. I have had a 70 watt improvement (with like 65 of those watts in the span of a year).

Or hit one of the super craters out there. The new paved sections are nice, but some of the older sections are still pretty rough.
