So you plan on racing next season with a newborn in the house? Have you figured that part out yet?

As for your choices, weights have to be worked into the rest of your training plan because they cause stress that must be accounted for.

I want to add box jumps to my routine this winter. anyone have recommendations for something to use as a plyo box (18") that is cheaper than dedicated plyo boxes? the ones i've seen online seem stupidly expensive for what they are. i'm not very handy either so i'm not interested in building one.

alternatively you're short enough to use a curb.

Plyo Box I have used this one at a gym - adjustable and sturdy. It is not to expensive.

BTW, the goal in box jumping is not to miss. If you think I am stating the obvious, many hurt their shins when they do not jump high enough and scrape on the box. Shin guards are excellent as well as plyo safe boxes i.e. padded boxes.

I was doing 30 inch jumps at a gym on the padded box and missed. Just a slight abrasion of the skin but no injury.

Or just jump? Jumping to higher box is half jumping and half raising your legs high enough to make it. The explosiveness is what counts not how high of a box that you can jump on to.

As Misterwaterfall said, you can squat jump without the box. What has worked for me is jumping to the box and raising my knees for the higher box jumps. In reality, my lower abdominal muscles get sore for jumping higher more than my legs. The problem with the squat jump is the landing. I want a very soft landing so that it is easy on the joints and achilles. I find the squat jumps without a box generates a lot more impact on landing. Jumping has helped my 500 meter time trial a lot but the key is not getting injured doing the jumps.

And I do not jump off the box but step off and then reload for another jump. This is different from what the crossfit guys do.

Doing squat jumps is how I messed up my knee. In fact, injuries to the patella tendon often are referred to as "Jumper's Knee."

Puppy Doge finished his heavy / max weight leg presses today of 1,000lbs (about 700 on the feet) 4 reps, partial range.
This is up 40% in 2 months (700->1,000). No more that heavy till a year from now.
Body weight is up from 140->148lbs at roughly the same composition - based on visual.
Expectation is to drop about 4 lbs. over next 4 months of upper body.

I'm out shopping for power meter batteries so I can get a good recording of the results.

Personally For box jumps its not so much the height you gain, as the stable landing and repetitions. I see a high box jump 1rm just like a squat 1rm....you dont really need to do it and it doesnt gain you much. Theres other variations of plyometrics and box jumps that will benefit.

If people weightlift/gym train and cycle in the same day...what is their rest period between sessions please?

depends.

There was a long jag of time where I would sandwich my gym work between two 1 hour trainer sessions. I really liked that. Now I generally ride first, eat and rest, and then hit weights 1 1/2-2 hours later.

Here is Anna Mears, 2012 Olympic match sprint gold medalist box jumping. I like the shin guards a lot.

I find it hard to believe that the downside potential of that isn't far far greater than any realized upside.

So the bar (presumably with heavier weights than the clean) is resistant to rolling out your hands. I can't imaging doing a clean with reverse grip.
