Not saying what the best "high octane" is for anyone BUT can assure you that Oreos and Kit Kats aren't it.
Going to add to this a little as well.
What works for me is going to be different than what works for others, if nothing else I would hope that guys at least look at their nutrition. Stein I know you watch things very carefully and have a good handle on nutrition but most don't.

Oreos have a couple things going for them.
1. Consistency. If you keep to the US, they're always the same. I have noticed that Canadian Oreos are somewhat different.
2. They're hyper-palatable. They've been engineered so thoroughly that the mix of sweet/salt/bitter is very, very even (there isn't much sour that I can taste). In that respect, they're spooky. They've been tweaked to spin all the dials in our brain that make us want more. That enough is reason to stay away.
This is not so unlike Budweiser beer, now that I think about it.
----------------------------------------------------
Side note: For a year I worked with a 'former childhood actor'. He was about 20 years old and nothing special in terms of looks or physical appearance. Girls of a certain age absolutely couldn't leave the guy alone. At some point I figured it out. He had been marketed to these women for a decade. It wasn't like someone similar to him was being sold to these girls, HE was being sold to these girls all through their formative years. The people that did the marketing are really good at it and they made him this 'hyper-palatable' guy. At first it was funny, but after a while it was just creepy.

To me, this thread is more like the story of the blind men and the elephant.

Mike, you're such an amateur. why would you crush up a homeade choco chip cookie and put it on ice cream when you could eat the cookie and chase it with a bowl of ice cream?

<Don't read this part, Jsut>
Yes, he's a brash high-school punk, but ultimately, he's not a bad kid. If I thought he was a hopeless case, I wouldn't respond to him. He's bright enough, just inexperienced. He's been dealt a good hand genetically and could probably be a domestic pro if he really worked at it (Who knows if he aspires to couch surf and make $8k/year + all the Cytomax you can drink).
<OK, you can start reading, again>
At the end of the day, I feel like we're all just sitting at the bar and shooting the $#17. It's hard to get too worked up over it.

Put two cookies on the bottom of the bowl, microwave, and cover with ice cream. Someone give me a smoke, I'm spent.

I recently realized I don't eat NEAR enough fat. I still can't quite figure out how to get enough fat into my diet. I tried snacking on nuts at work, buying 2% milk (yes I still drink cow milk), putting extra olive oil or butter or mayo on things. I am starting to try to get into peanut butter but it's hard. Salmon is fatty but too much of a pain to eat all the time!
Most milks are not going to be a source of good fats. You have to get the grass-fed stuff, and even then, I think you're better off with fermented dairy as opposed to straight milk. As far as nuts go, peanuts aren't that good of an option. I'd recommend macadamias, walnuts or butternuts (white walnuts). Olive oil is a good option. Butter from a grass-fed cow is a good option (Kerrygold is a common grass-fed brand, standard butter is not much better than margarine, which is to say, bad). Your mayo is probably made from soybean or corn oil, which is to say, bad. Make your own from olive or flax oil for a much better option.
Other ways of getting good fats are: avocado, cooking with coconut oil, omega-3 eggs, grass-fed meats, fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, black cod or sardines) and grass-fed cheeses (I like buffalo mozzarella, which I make a caprese out of).

One thing that should be made clear is even though I tend to err on the lower-carb side of things, I'll make the caveat that you have to eat a necessary load of carbs for the work you have planned. If you're riding a crit or doing anaerobic intervals, you better be carb'd up or else you'll be flat as a fart.

Because some animals (cows) are supposed to eat grass. Feeding them corn completely messes up their digestive track (destroys the natural flora), which is why they're pumped full of antibiotics so they don't get sick.

I get olive oil mayo. Oh yeah, I forgot I was going to try to eat more Avocado. Do you know why grass fed everything is better (Other than "sounding" healthier)? As far as milk - I eat cereal and milk in the morning because it is fast. I can't stand the taste of whole milk though.
