Help me with a question on friels training bible

So I'm reading the training bible and trying to put together a program to peak for the state championships in October. My question is let's say your suppose to do 20 hours this week. Under the daily workout for that week your suppose to do 3 hours on the bike and its a interal day where your doing 5 x 12 minutes zone 3. What do you do with the rest of the time? You still have 2 hours left your suppose to do that day. Do you ride easy for 2 hours, keep doing those intervals for a total of 3 hours or what? When you get to where your doing 2-3 hours + a day the days where you do a certain interval workout it doesn't explain what to do with the rest of the time. If you are suppose to ride easy do you do it before the interval or after or do you split it up?

Thank you for the info. I looked all through that book and could never find where it stated what exactly he wanted you to do with the excess time. I mean a guy who is riding 1000 hours a year could have a lot of extra time to still need to be ridden after the daily prescribed intervals.

i mean it is the secret to getting fast. if you have the time, you ride z2 all the time, and add intervals at the end of the ride. Bam! Done! Simple as that.

only exception is racing, then u race and then do ur z2 afterwards.

I used to wonder this myself. Now I just shoot for TSS points. It's makes everything so much simpler.

He must have adblock because he didn't see the side banner with the blond with huge jugs wearing a t-shirt explaining it.

i'm lazy and use training peaks' tTSS, an estimate from total time and average heart rate. i just make sure i'm hitting a sufficiently high number for each week (3-4 weeks getting a little higher each week, then a week off-ish). it's not perfect, but also gauging how i feel, i take it to be a fine entry level estimate.

No the OP was asking what to do with the rest of his ride when done with the intervals. I look at TSS after I'm done with my intervals (Joule 2.0), then just ride around until I hit the TSS goal, usually at Tempo or Sub-LT
