Getting shut out like that happens a lot in our Masters races, though more commonly on the inside of the turn, where someone will come in more than they need to, and more than the line of the pack, to force you back. It's a subtle thing, and often not clear whether it is intentional or not. With that curb there, and as far back as he was, I would have done exactly what he did and backed off. Of course if someone behind expects you to hold your speed, and you back off instead, there can be some issues behind you. It wasn't a problem in this case, as the camera guy was inside him and just went past.

Exactly.
And how much of a hole does ole rkwaki need to come through?

It is only when they are completely out of the corner that the outside rider gets squeezed almost into the curb.

Maybe I have just heard "hold your line!!!" to many times being yelled at various people on every single corner over and over (wow that gets annoying), but if they were three abreast the whole time until the actual exit, didn't someone not hold their line? I know the blue rider, and the outside rider, both wanted to follow the train, but wasn't the outside rider entitled to the outside line as long as he had been even with the other two the whole time? If the outside rider had just a bit more speed so his handlebars had been a bit in front of the blue rider, instead of a bit behind, would that have been a "safe" way to steal that position?

Just trying to get cornering information since I feel like I struggle with what is, or isn't, the appropriate line in a corner especially when several riders are going though the same corner at the same time.
Yeah it's a bit difficult to tell in the video what was going on. Ignore people who say hold your line they are probably the ones who either can't or are trying to boss you around. Also when some one says 'on your left' then that's great because you know exactly who to close the door on

And I don't mean in anyway unsafely. The thing is you know when you are trying to make moves and so you know you are the one who should slow down when it doesn't work. There is a trust thing there similiar to when two of you are trying to grab a wheel and the others bars are in front of you and they move over into position you just let them go. Unless you are a complete jerk and that's when accidents happen.

The ones that worry and vocalize danger the most, are the ones that we are most worried about.

If someone feels squeezed, it's because they don't have the skills to "not" feel squeezed.

I'm reviving this because my wife successfully took a wheel in the race last Tuesday.

She has started doing the Tuesday night race series and often is one of a few women in the field. Last week, she got dropped on a Prime Lap, but as they came around again, she went to move back into the field. She successfully, but safely, compelled a rider to back off and let her in. No elbows were thrown. No pushing or shoving. She just moved close and held her position and the rider behind opened more room so she could slide in.

It was pretty awesome watching her do it.

So a training race, albeit she was with guys, gets dropped/lapped, then just decides to get into the middle of the pack and take a wheel when they come around?

Sounds like a Faux pas to me.

That's a lowercase F. Not a proper noun, it's French for "false." You know, "false step."

Anyway, doesn't sound like a problem to me, in a training race. I wouldn't give a carp, personally.

if you're dropped in a training race, and want to get back on, then you should go where you belong - in the back.

I guess that chivalry is not dead, at least in training races.

Wow. I had no idea you were someone who got his jollies causing others grief, but I guess that's the case.

FWIW, it's in the moderators hands now.

a few thoughts:

unless one reports something it's most likely not in the hands of the moderators. We don't read every thread, every post, weigh in on every thing.

spoilers are something that can get you an infraction -- don't do it. If you don't like that take it up with an admin or spend your time elsewhere.

He should be relegated for that, but he won't, and even if he was, it wouldn't mean anything.

Why? Wasn't the other guy veering into the sprinter to try to stop him? Seems to me, you should be prepared for a bump if you're going to do that.

^I'm a totally new racer, can you help me understand why? I didn't think Cavendish did anything wrong in that. Looked like Veelers swerved into him (especially after Veelers looks back and sees Cavendish coming up behind him).
