I Just manned up!!

Signed up for most first road race today. 36 mile road race after a 14 mile time trial. I'm averaging about 20 mph solo for 40 miles (flat) and have been on 3 fast (23mph) group rides. Don't know if I'm ready but I'll find out! May 4, 2013. Let's go. Cat 5

Good job and good luck. You'll soon learn that average speed means next to nothing for judging race readiness.

Click here, read through some tips, and go have fun!

Hey, OP: do us a favor and don't mention any of this supportive encouragement in the 41. We have a reputation to keep.

Sprints. Intervals. Do them. Work on putting maximum acceleration to the pedals and going from ~18 to MAX as fast as you can.

How did it go? I can hold 20+ on 50 mile rides and I still get dropped. I am scared and uncomfortable in the pack and usually end up in the wind or pulling hard and long. Need to grit my teeth and just settle in for the ride, but I just need pack skills.
