I decided to find out what all the fuss is about, and will be doing tonight's Regional Orthopedics race. I haven't a clue about the course, number of laps, or what to expect, but I figure I'll find all that out when I get there. Hopefully I remember enough of it to be able to post a "race report"

I watched a youtube video of last weeks cat 5 race; it's a flat course, at an old airfield. The race name / sponsor threw me a bit as well, but I figure a race is a race, and I've been saying I want to try one!

FBF is a rough place to get your feet wet racing. The pavement is horrendous. Rim shattering and crash inducing. The wind is at times strong enough to warrant 39x21 and then have you spin out on the other side. First race of the season there this year about 1/3 of the A field flatted out. There's not enough money to get me to race there. But hey, I'm sure you'll be fine.

No training crit to try out?

we don't really do 'training crits' on the east coast. Racing is racing. This is would be what one would consider a training crit (except it's a circuit) in other parts of the country.

Does it matter that doing this crit is part of a racing clinic? The coach who gave the lecture part will be at the race to give pointers / tips / advice. I didn't even think to look into training crits! <-I see that's been answered already

I don't know what 'this is BF' means outside of you trying to get some bearing on the fact that you're in your browser on a forum and not facebook or your email client. Still I genuinely don't know what a training crit is. This is a weekday race he's going to. Guys are pinning on numbers to win. Same as races every other day of the week.

Windy! it gets really windy out there and yeah the roads are pretty bad, there are usually a bunch of people flatting out. The tuesday nights are usually the bigger course and thursdays use the smaller one. Usually the youre riding into the wind on the back side of the course and riding with it when you come down the start finish straight so it makes for some fast sprints. Idk what cat youre in but the 5s generally do 5 laps out there on tuesdays. Personally I think its a pretty fun race, if you work a 9-5 its almost like two races if you count trying to get down there in time to race.

ive been warned to stay out of the grass there because of the ticks... never seen one myself but like I said ive been warned so I just avoid trying to find out for myself
