Where I am staying is definitely not a tourist/foreigner's haven where everything is 'safe' and set up for tourism. I don't know Colombia enough to say where the touristy spots are, but I'm sure they exist. That being said, I would equate where I'm staying with US city suburbs where people live/have families/go to school. Also, not really sure where these 'bad parts' are or if/how they exist and to what degree. I'm sure Botto or someone who knows more about Colombia could comment on this. As far as I know things are far better than how they were 20 years ago when the violence/drug problem was really bad.

I actually do have some very close friends who are like family down there in Medellin. Maybe next year, but then again I think I would get better Battenkill training up here in the bitter cold.

Training has been going awesome. This past week I clocked 20 hours and 33 mins, 331 miles and ~32,000ft of climbing.
Last Sunday I rode Matasano for the first time (hardest climb in the area) and did it in 50:46. Today (Sunday) I did it in 47:03 (the ride on strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/110...nts/2424217772)! Over three minutes better. I'm currently sitting at #8 on the leaderboad. To get to 2nd I have to better my time by 35 seconds, which I definitely will do, but to get the KOM I have to ride it in less than 37:21! Definitely not going to do that, but I'm going to try and get as close as I can.

Welp, training has been going well. Did 15 hours in the last 3 days, one of those days being a 6 hour/100 mile ride. I'll probably log a bit over 25 hours for the week. My goal for next week is to do 30 hours. After that, I fly back home .
