i never realized that changing cassettes was such an arduous task.

Waiiittt, aren't you a junior?

I change cassettes often enough that I lose track of which cassette is currently on which wheel.

it's not, though 11 speed hubs and 10s cassettes make it more so.

Doesn't need to be to get me to punt on it. Just more work than zero. Maybe if I do a crit with 12-21 someday, I'll be so amazed by how much better the gear spacing is that I'll change my mind. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

So, what helmet did you ride, did you talk to the promoter about next year or why they are keeping it this way and of course ... how did it go?

poor echappist, I gave him strategic advice for this race, and now he's blocked me on all messaging!

shovelhd 04-28-14 10:52 AM

Must have been bad advice.

11-21 = -10
11-23 = -12

-10 > -12 ... 11-21 *>* 11-23

I got sick on the first day and DNSed the second day. Did talk to the promoter about it, and it seems they may even want to extend the rules to the cat 1 and 2 racers as well

Not a matter of it being arduous, just mostly unnecessary. So much so that I don't actually own many others than what's on my wheels. I have an 11x28 on my bike at my house in the mountains. Every other one I own is 11x23. I just don't need anything else.

grolby 04-28-14 02:38 PM

Hell, I've hardly used my 39x25 since moving to Boston. Needed it ALL THE TIME in Tennessee.

pjcampbell 04-30-14 05:27 PM

I know the race already happened (or did it?) but if its a TT and they say "mass start legal" then I'd go for your Giro advantage 2 (or similar). Did you see other people wearing them?

GMSR TT's rules is "mass start legal" and everyone who has it, uses pointy helmets and wheel covers.

What race?

echappist 04-30-14 06:04 PM

Tour of Page County. they were pretty strict about the rules, too.

it ended up being a moot matter for me as i got sick on the previous Friday and sat out the timetrial on Sunday

:( there will be more. When is your next a race? Anything you could do differently to perhaps reduce the chances of getting sick leading up to an event? Not everything is preventable but if you pay attention to what you did or didn't do leading up to this event it might give you a few ideas for the future.

shovelhd 04-30-14 08:23 PM

Absolutely sucks getting sick before an A race. You will bounce back.

Also ""respectfully submitted" is the equivalent of " bless her heart"

In the south, you can say the most awful thing possible about someone as long as you follow it with bless her/his heart.

thanks :)

while i don't like to make excuses for myself, i think the cold actually affected the only race i did (the road race). i was drinking so much water that when i was ready to line up, i had to go use the restroom. I had a good opportunity at lining up near the front, but instead had to start at the back. It took me 1.5 laps to move up, but the break went in the crosswind after 1 lap, and i tried to bridge to no avail.

My next A race will either be a climbing race (for which i'm thinking of getting a 11/36t as i was grinding away at 65 rpm at time last year) or another stage race (this one should allow TT bikes). I think the main thing i learned is that i need good rest for Wednesday and Thursday evening before the race weekend. I was hanging out with my lady friend close to midnight on Thursday evening, and i may need to change my plans in the future.

yeah, i figure as much ;)

funny you bring up "bless her heart." i was listening to a NPR show that talked about rhetorical devices such as "bless her heart", "no offense, but", etc. Very interesting on how we phrase things.
