Think about how you spent your time groveling in the wind. You were probably low, which loads your glutes more, and many people don't do that kind of work on the trainer.

Just going harder was probably part of it but getting low (like when riding outside in the wind) has always been something I work on while on the trainer. I've found that I'll go do a race and not have sore glutes/back/etc after working on staying low for much of my trainer rides. Then I get lazy, sit up more (because whatever is okay on a trainer), then end up barely able to get down stairs after a real ride or race.

Branchbrook was a good choice this weekend. I liked the course and the competition. The wind was brutal, but it made for good training. Career best finishes... both races. Glad I skipped the deep wheels.

I've decided I'm too paranoid to run gp4000s IIs at Battenkill. The powers that be have signed off on Gatorskins with latex tubes, curious where your puncture resistant allegiances lay. I am over thinking this. I blame the 4 shots of espresso I drank this morning.

I did three battenkills, two benningtons, and three Hornbys on the same set of Pave tubulars. They are still good.

I've used GP 4000s twice at battenkill with no ill effects. Not brand new or anything either. Might be luck though.

Pro4 Endurance for me 3x at Battenkill. 1 flat when I hit a pothole hard enough to damage the wheel and had to wait for neutral service.

@DieterDrake:
thanks for coming into the discussion. I appreciate your perspective.

I will be flying out for battenkill (did it a few years ago and loved it--thought you and your crew put in an excellent event).

I'm likely to race both Saturday and Sunday and am deciding what fields to enter. Looks like 35+ is my only race option in Sunday.

There re is currently very light registration for that field. Someone speculated that if reg remains light you might combine it with 45+ (race together, scored separately). Is that a consideration?

it is interesting to me as I happen to know a bunch of people in 45+ but generally hate mixed fields with multiple winners.

Thanks!

No, we've never combined fields at Battenkill.

See you in 10 days...

TKP, 3 battenkills on GP2Ks and no flats. Wide rims and latex tubes for the last couple. You've done battenkill before, so you know pinch flats are much more of a risk than punctures.

Good to know re combined fields. I was going off my experience at the NY champ RR last year where 35+/45+ were combined.

Last year, brand spanking new 25c GP 4000 S II tires, 2 flats in the first third of the race. It was my very last race as a 4 and I was as fast and light as I'd ever been. There are no words for the temper tantrum that followed. My 2 year old would've been ashamed.

Yeah, like I've run gp4000s there before and all was kosher, but I also had one fail on its second ride/first race this year. I would like to avoid a temper tantrum and/or straight up murder and the prison time that would surely follow, which is why I'm thinking the rolling resistance penalty may be worth it.

No coffee yet so no overthinking; gatorskins it is.

my tire options for bkill are panaracer pasela or evo corsa (both clinchers). leaning towards just using my training setup (paselas on 32 spoke rims)

See you Sunday.

If I win, and gsteinb and the other guy sleep in and forget to come to the race, I win the series. Could totally happen.

Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour sunday night!

hmm. I think I got an email from the now defunct (since the weekend) NJBA email list. While it might be awesome to get your race jones on Tuesday in April on a rainy night is apt to have a dismal turnout.

I don't mind racing against 4 other guys in the rain. What I don't want is to drive an hour and then have them cancel the race. Or have it be 2 other guys. Or have them start the race and then call it after a half hour.

I mean, it's not raining there right this instant, but come on:
