Both CDR and I know the course well. What can we help you with?

Thanks, I think I got it figured out from the video. I like to know where stuff is in terms of seconds from the finish line at bell lap speeds. Looks like the hairpin is about 90 seconds, the narrow-to-wide left hander is about 40 seconds, and the final bend to the finish straight is only about 10 seconds.

Wilmington Grand Prix

last time I did this race, it was a huge rectangle with two looong straightaways and two short connectors that were basically one long turn each. they've added the square on the upper right around courthouse. I remember corners 3&4, which now look like 7&8 being a wide to narrow street entry that was kind of tricky. I also remember the crosswalks on market street being brick with concrete on both sides, the concrete was several inches higher than the bricks and by the end of the race my arms and shoulders were super sore from hitting the concrete.

Good luck! You should be fine in cat 3, just get to the front early and stay there.
thanks, that's the goal. Line up 30 min in advance (i'm notorious for rolling in at last minute and lining up at the back) and be clipped in and holding onto the fence so i can be up there.

I've done well in technical crits racing against people who are stronger. In the Mabra Championship crit, I was in the winning break with two guys who are both now cat-2s and quite strong. In the group sprint, my now teammate (also a cat-2 now) finished 2nd from that group, and he's also ridiculously strong. i am hoping that racecraft will help me make up what I lack in terms of pure horsepowers and at least allow me to finish in the front group and contribute to efforts of my stronger teammates.

the best picture of my racing career came out of the kermis.

in case you don't know, all the people in this picture are WAY BETTER at bike racing than I am.

Awesome. Leading Ben, I see Austin in the background. Tim A, who normally would be a focal point, is just another Cat 2. I dunno the Metlife guy. Is that MikeM peeking into the picture at the right?

You should be happy I'm not working that race because that is illegal and I would "correct" you.

Luciano Pavan. Cat1. GC, that is the hairpin. A two lane road that turns hard left into what is essentially a walking path. Big squeeze play here.

I think your timing is close for a P/1/2/3 race dominated by cat1's and a P or two. If you're setting up for the sprint it goes as you start the final left hander, up against the inside along the fence. If you're thinking kilo, it's about at the point of the last hard right hander.

part of it is like the South, just like parts of VA. Then you get Maryland and NoVa; yeah, pretty much like the north

Double hell, I can't shake this sinus thing. Racing tomorrow is also turning out to be highly inconvenient family scheduling wise. If my health and attitude are not much improved tomorrow, I'm bailing on the Kermis. Bummed.

Family is important.

I'm committed to the Kermis, of course I am I live 35 min away. Registered for Ninigret even though there were only 8 people registered for the 3s. Eight. What a nightmare for the promoter.

Then Sunday doing Tour de Lyme with a former-teammate (he stopped racing) and good friend.

After thinking it over, assuming I don't feel worse health wise in the morning, I think I'll go but just do the Masters and then come home. It's 4 hours of driving for 50 minutes of racing, but doesn't make sense to dig a karma deficit to do a 2nd race if I'm not feeling 100%, and I'm ambivalent about racing 3/4s anyway.

I kinda want to get my 2 just to simplify decisions like this.

The weather looks crappy too. At least all races start within 30 minutes or so and the longest one that is 3.5 hours starts first. Hopefully it will be a relatively short day.

I remember there being more cat 3 pack fodder last time I did it. Guess the weather is scaring people away. I finished it 2 years ago, so there's hope. Just gotta put my head down and pedal really hard.

I would focus on staying in the field. Save your energy for closing gaps. There are going to be a ton of splits.

The MTB racing forum appears moribund, but if anyone here is multidisciplinary, this is an amazing course that's generally off limits (private property) except for this race, one day a year:

https://www.bikereg.com/williams-lak...s-trt-bicycles

The course has a bunch of really unique features including a section through an old cement mine, with the way lit by hundreds of glow sticks. It's quite technical as well.

If you do the race drop me a line, it's less than a mile from my house.

yeah, obviously that's my goal. last time i did it i think the field mostly stayed together (well besides from the early break, let them go, chase the last lap for the sprint game which I was not a part of), but then again i was so deep in the pain cave i barely remember.

Good luck to you, with the weather being what it is I have to say I'm not exactly upset to be skipping a weekend of racing.
