Always leave "race wheels on"

it's only a gateway to ewangery if you let it be. there have always been dbags, strava just makes it more public. maybe it's made it worse, but it's really, really easy to just ignore that whole culture. i'd still find it every bit as useful if they removed the kom feature entirely (PRs are kind of fun though). i rallied against it for a long long time but now that i've started using it i really like it.

A couple people eRacing and bragging online about KOM's isn't that big of a deal to me. There's worse stuff that goes on in the internet than that.

it is so fred to ride everyday on race wheels. any respectable racer has:
winter wheels (on his winter bike with fenders), aluminum rims, set up with at least 25mm tires and barely any brake track remaining
everyday training wheels, aluminum rims, set up with at least 25mm tires, these are also used for weekday worlds or training races
indoor training wheels that make the winder wheels look brand new
super light and aero climbing race wheels that are tubulars
super deep carbon aero tubulars for crits and flat road races
ever super deeper carbon aero or tri spoke front carbon tubular wheel for TTs
carbon tubular rear disc for TTs
new wide rim wheelset, carbon, tubular, for racing on windy days
carbon clinchers with tubeless tires mounted on them that would take 3 shop workers hours to remove

Anyway, I have OK 50mm Tubies that I race on and overbuilt Mavic Open Pros/Ultegra Hubs that I train on. I cheat and do some group rides on my tubies, but I'm scared of flats, even with Pit Stop. I'd like to get something like Williams Alu 30s for Tuesday Worlds and big group rides.

I train on my race wheels. That's because I like having power, and can only afford one Powertap; my race wheels are 32 spoke Open Pro CDs with an Ultegra front hub so they weigh about 2100 grams.
My retirement job is at the LBS, so I may check into something else in the future.
