any racers near the Columbia SC area

Hi yall,

I live on the northeast side of columbia SC and I am looking for some people to train, practice, or go to races with. while there are a few group rides around here. There are not a lot of racers. I have actually only met two. I asked both if they would like to start practicing together or travel to races together. both of them told me that other than the group rides on wed they just ride the rollers indoors. also we all ride different races and they said they dont like riding to races with others that arent in their class because they dont want to have to get to the race earlier or leave later than they have to. I know this is a long shot but i am hoping someone might read this and live around here.

Your best bet is to find a team and join.

I went to my LBS and asked them about any teams or racers. They told me they dont know any. On usacycling website they have one listed for columbia which is cyclecenter but They dont seem to have one anymore im guessing that team was back from a few years ago. a lot of people have told me racing use to be bigger here but people started getting out of it and it just died down over the last few years around here. thats why i was hoping i might find a random person on here in my same situation and area.

Just one bike store? Go to all of them. Cycle Center Columbia SC (803) 256-0557 Bicycles Specialized Cannondale Pinarello Haro Fuji sponsors a team.

Who are you doing group rides with? Are you asking people there?

Have you checked out Home| Carolina Cyclers

USAC lists lots of teams in Columbia: USA Cycling Clubs - USA Cycling

Carolina Cycling Team is pretty large: Carolina Cycling Team There are probably some people in Columbia on that team.

I guarantee there's at least one active team in Columbia. It just takes some time to find them...and then sometimes more time to join them.

ETA: Also, many LBS's have group rides. Often many of the teams show up to these rides, especially the 'A' rides.

...it's a drive, but there are lots of fast rides down here in Charleston. The Saturday morning Trek A ride, in particular. Very competitive. Most people riding that race (including me).

thanks for the info. I ride the Summit cycles group ride. I ride in the "A" group. there are two other racers in it. they arent on teams and they are also the ones that dont like to travel with other guys. Summit is where i asked about teams there or anywhere else around columbia. I go to charleston some times to do the fun cyclocross races they have down there. It would be kind of hard for me to go down there weekly just to do training rides, because of the hour and a half drive. although if you ever wanted to a carpool to races maybe we could start meeting up and doing that. im going to try and hit up as many cyclocross races as I can this year. I have also been trying to do as many road races as i can that are within a three hour drive of me. ( a lot have been cancelled this year.)
