He seems very different, very confident this year, even just from interviews. He also appears to be way stronger than the guys in 2-6, he just can't tactically race worth a ****. I think he'll be okay as long as that sickness gets better not worse.

Did you hear the announcer yesterday say that they were going 44mph on the flats? I think it may have been during the windy section with BMC up at the front. I wonder if there was a serious tailwind, because I think usually they don't really go above 32mph or so on the flats unless they are in the last few miles and chasing down the break.
I've been in numerous races and training rides on very long flat roads where we were doing 38-40mph and watching ppl explode from not being able to turn the cranks fast enough. And we're just a bunch of lowly cat1-2's. Droppage had nothing to do with gearing btw, only their lack of leg speed.
And gsteinb is correct, Phil and Paul exaggerate numbers constantly, but heck, they're just luring the noobs. No big deal I guess if we want growth.

They actually averaged 44kph+ over the whole race. I'm betting on Phil just forgetting units.

Comparing the two big American GC riders right now, TVG and Talansky, I would give TVG the advantage in terms of raw physical talent and Talansky the edge as a pure bike racer. There's a lot of talk about how Talansky owes so much to grit or determination, and I guess that true, but it kind of annoys me. I think it's strange how little attention is given in most of the mainstream analysis of the sport, in English anyway, to the importance of smart racing. I think Talansky's gift is at least as much that he's just a badass bike racer with very good instincts as it is willpower or determination or whatever. I'm not on board with mattm's Garmin "failboat" at all. Thank goodness there's a team that goes out there and races their damn bikes, and is getting behind a GC leader who does the same thing.

I never heard of Jimmy Fallon.
At least they used the TdF as a topic.

The best part of the race is the contest between the two young French racers for the "small box" and white jersey.

Whelp. Way to blow it TJ. At least we know he's clean. Otherwise he just sucks. But he always has a bad day, and his bad day = completely blow up day.

I would really like to see Nibbles crack and make things interesting. ..don't think it's going to happen but it could.
