So some iteration of my wife's family have been here since last Wednesday. Mostly its been my mom-in-law and my 7 almost 8 year old niece. Wife had early appointments so I was on duty. MIL started in on breakfast for my niece...chocolate milk and Wonderbread toast with jelly. I got some fresh fruit in her before the bread but couldn't undo the chocolate milk.
Lets just say my MIL isn't healthy or athletic.

Both of my kids' grandmas live nearby. One is well trained to only feed the kids actual food. The other is untrainable. Butter and sugar sandwiches for lunch, etc. She still thinks the phrase "organic food" is like some kind of scam. "What food isn't organic? Rocks?"

Internal cable routing isn't that bad once you kind of figure it out. I used a paperclip that I opened and cut part off of to create a small hook for fishing out cables. Also, if you can thread cable liner through first - many frames come with fishing line already threaded through the frame- it makes things a lot easier.

Planning on cutting that cable TV cord... f-ing comcast bill is outta control.
Anyone have a 5-6 megabit/sec connection and can do Netflix HD movies ok? Looks like Netflix says 5 is the minimum required for HD, but I'm wondering if Comcast's advertised "6 mpbs" is really 6.
We have something like 25 mpbs now, but thinking of going down a notch just to save dough..

We're lucky to have Google Fiber coming in. It's not even in my area, and I just got bumped to 30mbps for free, and I have 200mbps upgrade coming for free in Sept. Just insane.
I'm thinking of cutting the cable too, but non-rabbit-ear sports are a tough loss in our house (though not really a big deal for me).

I haven't had cable in forever, maybe the mid 90s? Unfortunately it means that when we visit friends/restaurants with cable and there's something happening (Superbowl, playoffs of some kind, Tour coverage) we get drawn into the TV, mostly for the ads and stuff. Then I spend a bunch of time watching funny ads on YouTube.

I have a 50+ connection in NJ. It's actually faster than my wifi can handle. Need ethernet to maximize it.
My other house, as I said, has terrible 3 up 300kbs up. It's actually getting upgraded on Tuesday, so I'm hopeful I can actually work from there when I need to going forward.
We record a fair amount of TV, but it's so easy to DL these days. I DL and store most of the shows I watch while I train.

My AT&T dsl was stuck at like 550kb/s (yes, that's a k as in kb, not m as in mb) for like a year and it actually was laughably usable. If you were doing absolutely nothing else netflix would work decent.

Between Apple TV movies/TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, we can get all of the shows we watch + movies.
The only missing piece for me is bike races.. I'll miss the TdF in HD, and especially having it already recorded/etc. I do steephill for Vuelta or other races I don't get on TV, but usually the quality is crap. But it doesn't seem worth the $$$ just for HD TdF.. #firstworldproblems

Yeah I'm planning on keeping the internet part of Comcast, just not the cable. The speed options are basically 25+, which is really too much, and 6, which is just enough (if you actually get that) to do Netflix HD.

I've always shied away from torrents, given copyright issues, not to mention malware.
But that was back in the 90's/early 00's, maybe things have changed? (at least in terms of malware via torrents)

Pretty much ESPN stuff. Like the World Cup this year. NBA playoffs/finals, NFL stuff (my sons love both, for some damned reason). ESPN requires cable subscription to stream (this year).

The good thing about this site is they all review and post on it if it's a good feed. Mostly because the site only lets you access stuff if you post ratings/reviews or upload enough. There is usually eurosport feeds for most races in low quality hd that download pretty fast. It's nice because you don't have to worry about the stream skipping and can watch it anytime. I usually only hit it up for the major races during the classics if I miss the live feed or sometimes the giro or vuelta. I try to use the tour tracker's for the US races or the NBC online thingy during the TdF.

i have a new hire starting on M, his last name is ulrich.
he's received nothing from my HR dept since his offer letter. I spoke to HR dept about it and they sent him an intro package, to his email address at our company. since he starts on M, he would have no idea that he has such an email address. So, I just walked down and chastised our HR dept for doing things that make no sense and not being very welcoming to new talent in our organization. I used some MBA words too for good measure. I feel kind of bad, but am also kind of chuckling to myself.
