Fine. It's geek time.
I just moved my Nexus 4 from Dalvik to ART. Holy crap it's fast. Bumped my benchmarks from Galaxy S3 to Galaxy S4, just by clicking a radio button and rebooting. Maybe I should hang onto this phone for another year.
The Nexus 6 is attractive, but I'm not sure about riding with it, given its size.

I used to be relatively competent with techy items, but that was in college circa 1998. Since then, I'm way gone. I can use select software to accomplish the things i need (e.g., ArcGIS, r-studio, and other graphical statistical programs) and browse the web. That's about it.

When I was in the detail shop and we were connected to the Nissan Service building, we would wash and sweep cars for free (to the customer) just to try and help keep the CSI scores up

It is large. Still, display is 1/2" bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus, but it's only like 1mm taller and 5mm wider. The price surprised me at first, but it's $300 cheaper than a comparable iPhone, which is in line with the Nexus 5 pricing at its release.

Yup, just installed three Vista security and various other updates this morning, which is what prompted the original question. I'll probably update the OS fairly soon, will hopefully get this dinosaur moving a bit faster.

I'm running Miso on a XM7 platform with a 72.3 parallel offset hooked up to a CFG32a. Other than my upload speed is limited to 4.5ghz if I'm on lazer optic it's been very stable and there's virtually no way a hacker could get into the system.
You guys should give it a shot.

$70 to upgrade to Windows 8 via product key card, and 8.1 is a free download. Guess I'll do it, unless anyone has a cheaper way.

It still covers security patches.
Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy FAQ
All this EOL crap has been huge pain in my ass at work for the last year or so. We have a large number of analytical instruments that only will run on windows XP yet the data still needs to get into our LIMS database somehow. I've had to make powerpoint presentations explaining that retiring several $200,000 instruments because xp lost support is not an viable option. The first compromise was to put them on a very restricted VLAN but now they say that is not good enough and they want them on a "sneaker net" and they are going to buy a custom support arrangement.
They are still allowing vista on the "regular" network so it can't be that bad.

Yeah, it's a big deal. Not only does it involve tens of $1000s in bonus cash, it get a dealer higher up in line to order hot sellers and hard to get cars. Low CSI= no high end Corvettes until everyone else gets theirs.

My work pays somewhere around $1500 for an MSDN license, which is nice since you don't have to worry about things like buying Microsoft software

A software company cannot be expected to support an unlimited level of old revisions. Except for small shops, it's not financially feasible, especially in the era of open source where stuff becomes obsolete in 1-2 years and companies like RedHat take the same approach as Microsoft.

Why do companies put up with bad managers ? My wife has the same problem at her place. It has not been good for her over the years.

A friend said it's because if the owner admitted he hired a dufus, it would be admitting a mistake. Our owner says the current turmoil is just a "transition period" for the new manager.

Can I just get a normal (~4.3") phone that lasts all week without having to charge daily? I've been asking for battery life for 5+ years, no one seems to care haha.

For development and testing, it's great, but you cannot put anything from MSDN into production. I've been at too many places where MSDN has been abused. Microsoft comes down hard on it.

We've had that issue as well, mostly with out developers hosting in their own SQL environments. For some of them its easier than going through the DBA's.

If the SQL Server is used only by developers and testers, it's fine to share. Technically everyone using an MSDN product must have an MSDN subscription, but if most do its not a big issue. The whole department cannot share one, however.
