The whole area around washington park really is great, and if you fancy a stabbing you can hang around the capitol after dark. Best of both worlds.

Great cycling scene too, cbrc and nycross are really tight organizations run by awesome people.

I don't think it makes sense that it would affected by wind chill. My theory is that they tend to read high because sunlight (or just the electronics working) warms up the case a bit, and Garmin doesn't give enough of a **** to account for it. Or it's hard enough to do that it's not worth it.

I lived right across from the park for a year. It wasn't the best place to be after dark then, as it was a big pick up spot for guys looking to hook up. Got harassed nightly coming home from the bars. It's definitely made some strides in the last decade, but it's still is a pretty run down city.

Thanks shovel! I have interviews at miami, umass, and einstein lined up. They're going to be way more fun now that I'm not stressed. I actually liked the school a fair bit, so everything is just gravy from here on out. I still haven't heard from 25 schools. Kinda bummed that no philly schools have shown me love yet.

Yeah, but it also serves a gigantic population of patients. As someone interested in surgery, the best learning is often in those 'run down' cities or run down part of those cities.

One of my favorite cycling memories is descending from the Mt Lemmon tree line onto the spine of the mountain at like 7000ft and getting extreme vertigo due to the wide open view. Enjoy valygrl.

I'm confused by this, the top of the mountain, at about 10k feet, still has 50+ foot pines. I've ridden up there several times, what do you mean "tree line"?

That usually means the line at which you are too high for trees to grow, no? On Humphries that line is close to 11k feet so I imagine Lemmon would be the same if tall enough.

In lemmon's case I mean specifically descending below the pine tree forest that's up above 7500ft or so. You get out of it and pretty quickly you're riding on a ridge line, and shortly after that there's the car pull off with the epic views.

My 500 was reading 37 for a good portion of that ride. SO if mine is a little high and yours a little low, it was still frickin cold.

Be me. Have your left nut hurt for like the past 2 weeks, sometimes more sometimes less. Start getting really concerned about cancer and stuff. Do way too much research and consider a doctor's visit.

Be me 10 minutes ago...go ahead, cross your legs, you've earned it, you're working hard and leg crossing is for closers. Realize the reason your nut hurts is because your legs have gotten so big they pinch it when you cross them. Feel simultaneous relief and sadness. No more leg crossing :-|

So, training is going well.

I'm in Albany now, in fact I'm a (hopefully soon to be graduating) grad student at the school that just accepted you. ****, there goes the planet!

It's a decent school, could be better but could certainly be worse. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

This afternoon, I arrived at the airport, went through the security line and had my boarding pass rejected. Security didn't know why it wasn't working. Went through the ticket line, and the agent figured out the problem: I'm a meathead. HOU=\=IAH

Wrong airport. Other side of the city. Eff me.

The ticket agent managed to get me on a slightly later flight to DFW. I'm now sitting in the Reata airport bar, waiting for my badly delayed flight to Omaha, NE. I'll meet my family late tonight, around ten.

Tomorrow we'll bury my grandmother next to Grandpa.
