If I get a saddle sore I tend to rub antibiotic cream on it as much as I can. In general I don't use any sort of chamois cream, but when necessary (like lately) I use bag balm.

Thanks everyone. I'm on the way back; it was good to see the family again; were all so spread out that it's really hard to get everyone together. Seems like it only happens for funerals now. I'm glad I was able to make it up to say goodby. I've got to say: it was remarkably hard this time. She's the last of my grandparents to go, and I feel like that made it more difficult.
The service went well, my brothers and a cousin were pallbearers again. I learned from my uncle that at his mom's funeral, the director told them to just roll the casket out of the hearse. When the casket crashed to the ground, they learned they were to grab it too.
My family is from Omaha/Lincoln, though I grew up in Fort Worth and now live in Houston. The rest of the family is spread over the country and globe.

I'm like you g. I've never used any sort of stuff. I think I've had one saddle sore. Just make sure you wash your shorts after every ride and make sure they are tight.

You say "wash your shorts after every ride" like that's advice which actually needs to be given. I hope there's no one who goes multiple rides between washings.

Saddle sores aren't caused by poor hygiene, they're caused by mechanical trauma to the skin that allows an opportunistic pathogen to get in and start an infection. You can get a saddle sore in the cleanest of clean shorts. The bacteria are right there on your skin.

I used to develop small sores typically on my left side. They went away after I went to a bike fitter who said "Do you left saddle sores typically on your left?". I hadn't even mentioned them and he just noted that I was making more contact on my left. Since that fitting they are basically gone away.

Also, I was looking up their program and they refer to the MD program as 'undergraduate medical education'. I was so confused that I couldn't find the MD program on their website...

1999 aluminum Juliana, so I'm guessing no warranty, and probably no replacement parts available. I'll call them when it's late enough in CA. The really bad part is I was going to take the bike on vacation to Tucson, and now I'm trying to find something I can ride instead. Hard to find a rental my size, and my girlfriends are offering me their new full suspension bikes to borrow, but I don't really want to borrow a nice new bike, stick it on top of my car for 4 days of driving, and maybe (probably) hit the deck a few times.

I dont generally use it, but when I had an ingrown hair that caused a raised bump that the top wore off of I discovered the delights of cream. I like enzos because when I take my shorts off it smells like mint oreos.

Another occasional Bag Balm user. If it's good enough for milk cows, it's good enough for me.
