I recall when Doctor O went out to TT nationals and flatted. Chodroff went on to win, but Will had pretty much owned him all season. That left an impression on me as regards cost of travel to these big events. I never really factored much the idea of an event being flat out canceled though.

I think it's kind of a different beast for top pro/pro progression track guys though. I would never sue if I went to nationals and they were canceled. I would have been contacting lawyers the minute they announced race canceled if I was powers or Compton though. Winning a national championship certainly has monetary value to them,so I think it's a bit different.

I hadn't really considered it in litigious light…simply of having wasted my time and resources. I suppose you have a point.

It's supposedly happening tomorrow so other than hotel and flight changes the costs shouldn't be too huge.

Actually as I think about this more, I'm feeling usac screwed up a lot. I'd have to imagine there are big penalties in the contract for pulling this stunt (and if not, usac screwed up there). As soon as rumbles about race cancellation happened they should have been on the phone with the parks and rec persons boss if they're appointed, or with the media if they're elected, with the contract language and how much that was going to cost the city.

Granted that would kind of be all or nothing, but at least usac wouldn't look useless and would have tried to do something.

The course designers intentionally routed the course across those protected tree routes. It was a conscious decision. The fact that they can change the route for tomorrow to avoid them is telling.

From what I hear /every local race I've seen, the park had influence on course selection, which makes me wonder why the course was ever run near the trees.

Bummer for the cross folks. Hopefully something gets worked out so a race can be held, but not at the expense of the potentially affected heritage trees. I know little about the scenario, but if running the race as is planed legitimately threatens those tress, it should be moved.

Not sure who was involved in the course planning, but it sounds like a total blunder.

And how much is it costing everyone to revise their travel plans/stay an extra night?

Weather in Austin was a bit freak, but not enough to inspire another SRV song about Texas floods. We had a mildly wet week, and a quick rain front last night. Nothing serious.

This is indeed the same park as SXSW, and ACL. They see a lot of muddy foot traffic in rain, and nothing is cancelled. I think you follow the money on that comparison.

I'm embarrassed, where I'm usually proud of this city.

Yeah, been mega busy at work and home. New project assignment, a bunch of new folks on my team, now taking on employees from a RIFd manager, so team jumping from 6 to 16 all at once. Planning Philmont high adventure camp for boy scout troop, put on a pinewood derby for cub scout troop (which was needlessly postponed due to weather, much like CX, by city leaders), teaching a bunch of teens in RE at church, asst. coaching a soccer team, coaching two Lego robotics teams.

And we're having a pool and outdoor kitchen built, which is endless.

One positive note, adding to busy... in the interview process with a company where I'll be moving into the fitness tech industry, at a company where you'd be an outcast w/out a bike hanging on the wall next to your office.

I only just now logged onto my computer for the first time since yesterday to an avalanche of social media unhappiness from CX racer friends who traveled to Austin.

sample: "****, this is the most ****ed ****ing thing I've ever seen. ****." ...

Only a few CX elite racers have the resources to extend their travel plans at the last minute without incurring hardship. There are guys who are top 10 nationally scraping loose change together for gas money. This is a real fiasco.
