While I understand Fudgy's point about moderators who don't frequent this place weighing in on infractions, they are usually acting on reports. No one pays too close attention to this place. I gave up my star because it wasn't a lot of fun, it's time consuming, and having to skirt the line between participant and overlord makes it difficult to massage people's feels. The reality of it is someone is going to pay attention to this place. If it's internal it gives people a little more latitude and protection. Racing forum mods have come and gone (waterrockets, alejandro, walter, me). I've been asked to take it on again. Don't really want to. Someone should volunteer (in a serious way), we need accept what we get, or someone who has done it prior needs to be enticed to come back.

If you think about it, who else supports Doge's right to be awkward and weird? Who else shouts out that discussing merits of BB30 is squarely 41 material, or threads like "vintage tires for my old bike" has little to do with racing, training, or anything related. Who is totally comfortable with having all their private messages copied and pasted into the public board because I don't say **** in PMs that I am unwilling to defend publicly!?

I moderate some stock trading boards, and it's amazing how strict the rules there are. 90% of BF posts would get deleted.

I'm not really in any sort of official capacity asking. One of those options is bound to happen though. The idea that we'll eternally be left alone isn't likely to happen.

My job is alright. Been there 14 years (transferred sections once) and I just have typical gov't frustrations. For example we had a big server implementation last week. Two days prior a manager that is responsible for one application on that server panicked and now its delay a month with a committee of 30 people meeting weekly. We have made zero changes, there is just a ton of screaming about noise....

I was reading a bit about track racing, which I've never done but would like to get into, and I came across this intro guide which I thought was well-written and interesting. But one thing that jumped out at me was:
Eh? I most definitely do not expect to crash every 20 races or so!

I couldn't be a mod, I'd let too much slide. If you dislike a post or person, don't read it. If you ban every poster that's boring, off topic, or slightly offensive the 33 would be dead in a year. There truly are things that are offensive, I dislike the tendency posters have to bully up one guy (for example doge) but people seem to be okay with that and not the minor things people get banned for.

Moderating is like regulating. And who's to say what's really offensive or indecent to all when it comes to speech (or text)? I think if you don't like what someone types you can scroll down from it or heck stop reading it all together. The task of moderating seems like it would be extremely difficult and time consuming. Can't we call the FCC and just have them moderate this place?

On average top cyclists suffer a significant injury every other year.
Incidence and risk for traumatic and overuse injuries in top-level road cyclists. - PubMed - NCBI
Overall injury rates were 0.50 per racer/year, 2.02 per studied racer, and 0.007 per 1000 km of training and competition.
... and the injury rate is increasing
Changes in sports injuries incidence over time in world-class road cyclists. - PubMed - NCBI
contemporary professional road cyclists are exposed to double the risk of traumatic injuries than those competing in the 80s and early 90s.

I get to deal with this in a couple weeks.

Its flat here. I have nothing like this.
Its going to suck.
Im pretty sure this climb has more elevation gain than I typically see on a 40-50 mile ride.

I also ran a small Vbulliten forum for a friend a few years ago so clearly we have the palmares to rock this place.
