Thanks @Doge. I typically see less water than SoCal. I think I will stick with veloflex at the moment as long as I can get them cheap (enough). In fact, right now probikekit has been out of stock for a while so I may give the Vittoria Corsa G+ in 25 mm a try. It seems they are getting good reviews and cost as much as veloflex. Curious about 28 mm, but not enough to try, yet. (I am on a 2014 Evo, not sure if they fit.)

I put a bid on a CAADX frame and wasn't expecting to win, but I did. I'm a little nervous since the top tube is 1.5 cm longer and the seat angle is a half a degree back compared to my road bike. The reach is the same so it should be fine. Having owned bikes that were too big fit is important for me (first bike was a 54, now I ride a 50). It'll be fine, just means I may have to run a 100 stem instead of a 110.

I was going to swap everything off my old CX bike (which is a tad big as well) but then found out I can't just throw discs on my wheels. Everytime I piece together a new bike there's always some expenditure I miss and it ends up being higher than actually getting a new bike.

Anyone got a recommendation for a good CX wheelset ? I'm looking at the Willams System 25.

Many years ago, a friend told me I could still claim Irish citizenship. So I looked it up today.

Apparently my grandparents both had citizenship despite being born in the U.S. My father is eligible to apply for citizenship, despite being born in the U.S. I would be eligible had my father applied before I was born, but since he has not applied, I am not eligible.

So, even if he applied now, it'd be too late for you? That's a bummer. I always wished I was a dual citizen somewhere cool, or at the very least had a better tie in to whatever my heritage is. My mom's ancestors all came from Germany (probably illegally at least for some) at the level of her grand or great-grandparents, but I don't know anything about my dad's heritage except that there might be some English or Scot in their at some point and my last name might be Welsh or an Ellis Island bastardization of a German name. I do love mustard, horseradish, sauerkraut, and sausages, but I don't know that that's genetic.

Yeah, it appears it's too late for me. And my father's grandparents did arrive in the US illegally. They snuck in through Canada. At the time, the US was not admitting the Irish.

My mother's grandparents are all Italian and came through Ellis Island. As a result, I have relatives who have different spellings of the same last name due to how their name was recorded when they arrived.

i have dual citizenship through my parents (portugal) they applied for me when I was a kid. It's cool I guess, no real perks other than an escape option lol. In reality my ties to the country are going to be a big pain in the butt someday, my parents come from a tiny village on the northern border minutes from Spain, and all those little farming villages are going to be ghost towns within a generation.

My parents have my grandparents' home and a bunch of plots of farming land that is nearly without any real value, so I may essentially have to abandon that stuff, I may have some willingness to deal with it, but my son probably won't when he grows up. In a way it makes me really sad that I'm essentially abandoning a way of life my ancestors sustained for thousands of years in that region, but what can you do.

When I logged in to facebook this morning, it told me that there had been an election yesterday and my representation had changed (or something to that effect). It then gave me a link to see who my new representatives were. When I clicked on it, I got the following image:

I doubt they intended it as a political message, just an error that popped up in a funny place.

My cousin got an Irish passport. This was probably 10 years ago. It took him awhile and he had to prove that all 4 of his grandparents were Irish or eligible for Irish citizenship. I know that our shared grandparents were both born in the US, so I think the rules have tightened up since then. He discovered that one of our great-grandmothers came in illegally through Canada, apparently she just walked across the bridge from Windsor to Detroit.

My Mexican grandparents both had papers though. So, yeah.

My wife and I looked into Scotland a few months back, since we don't have a house at the moment, and I'm a consultant and can do what I want. My job is specialized enough that we could probably pull it off (about 500 people in the country or so do what I do) and get me work there, but it just sounds exhausting. I think a trip at some point is a better idea.

Anyway, my contract is getting extended for all of next year (the only consultant being retained), so we're good for now.

What do you do that there are only 500 people in your field? There are 500 people in the NBA.

I work on energy control systems for electric utilities, the central part the system operators use to control the grid and plants. 500 might be a slight exaggeration, but there's around 6000 system operators, and 10-1 is probably about the right ratio for operators to support personnel. 500 is about right for people with my specific skills and expertise, if not my general job.

I have dual citizenship. I was born in Scotland and only got my US citizenship a few years ago. I applied for dual citizenship for my kids (both born in USA) last year because they are teenagers and I figured that it would be easier if I did it and they could just choose to continue to renew their passports, or not. No real benefits except being able to go through passport control quicker when we visit family.

Funny, my mom's parents were German and my dad's family name is Welsh but I don't know anything about his family heritage. I love the foods you listed, maybe it is genetic. My mom made 'kraut in different ways.

My mother was born in Wales, supposedly my father is Welsh (never met, died at an early age). Never really thought of dual citizenship because I don't understand a word they say and its really cold.

Besides, Swansea City is about to be relegated and who wants to watch lower division football?

Don't they mostly speak English day to day? I mean, they're still really hard to understand even speaking English, but watch some Gavin & Stacey or Stella, and you'll pick it up quickly. I like the Welsh accent and speech patterns, they're delightful.

Plus, isn't Catherine Zeta Jones Welsh? That would be enough for a lot of men I know who were a certain age when she was at her peak popularity.
