Bump.

I notice there's a lot of Buckeyes hanging out at BF this year. Excellent! If you guys aren't down with the Wednesday Night Worlds scene, it's the fastest game in town. If Kirk Albers and some of the Texas Roadhouse guys show up, it's positively nutty.

There's also an excellent training ride (which I checked out tonight for the first time) out of the Breakaway bike shop in Delaware on Tuesdays at 6pm sharp. Not as fast as the Worlds, but plenty fast enough.

Hope to see some folks out in Dublin!

(Note -- WNW starts on Wednesday, April 5, 2006.)

Hopefully this Wednesday will be my first Wednesday Worlds of the season. Has anyone been out so far? I've heard the turnouts have been huge.

LOL. Reminds me of my DH's race report from a couple weekends ago. He said it took him more than half the race to figure out that Albers was in the field. He kept going, "Who's the poser who wore a full Jelly Belly kit to a race?" "Hm, that guy's got some legs on him, unusual for such a flaming poser."

Update: I was out there on 4/19 and 4/26. There were more than two dozen souls each time. The ride on 4/19 was silly fast -- I stayed with the leaders until the final sprint and had a 24.1mph average at the end of the day. That was the fastest I'd ever seen it. Last week (4/26) warmed up a bit more slowly, but it eventually got rockin' along pretty good. I was shelled early on (mile 16) as we headed into a cross-wind and I left myself hanging on the windward side. Oops. Ended up finishing with the second group, with a 22.8mph average.

Both weeks the ride drew a lot of the big guns in local/regional racing. There's plenty of engines to drive the pace and there's plenty of us who turn into road kill when the pace gets driven, so come on out for a great workout! Unless work gets in the way, I'll be out there tomorrow for sure (5/3)....

octopus, i really want to ride there sometime, but not sure of my abilities. (just about to upgrade to cat 4 although that doesn't really mean much) i am pretty sure i can keep up with that pace, 24mph, in a pack on flats, not sure if it is a pace line with climbs. whadyathink? should i go? will i get destroyed? can't make it tomorrow, but maybe next week.

Come on out and give it a whirl. On any given Wednesday, the majority (sometimes vast majority) of those who show up are shelled. Multiple chase groups will form; you won't ride alone.

Note that the 22-24mph figures are averages. The group will roll well into the 30s when it gets going (I hit 35mph last week, and I didn't contest a sprint and there aren't any downhills). If there's a lull, you may find yourself toodling along at 18mph. The "average" can be especially deceiving on this ride.

A variety of people show up for this ride. Pretty much everyone who does races; a few nutcases (like me) are Cat. 5. On the other end of the spectrum, Kirk Albers shows up when he's in town. There's no shortage of Cat. 1s out there, either. But there's also no shortage of folks who are just out there to get a great, fast race-simulation workout in. This year there have even been two juniors who have come out a couple of times and have lasted for part of the ride. I'd say if your ego can't handle getting dropped, then you probably want to stay away. If, though, you're looking for a spankin'-fast ride and a great workout, come on out and join us!
