racing in central park, new york

i've ridden this loop hundreds of times on my own, but i've never raced on it. was thinking of getting in on a race within the next month or two. what are race speeds for certain areas? cat's paw hill, harlem hill, the downhill portion before harlem hill, etc. ?

i've raced in prospect park before, and i know it's similar but not quite the same. any weird things happen in CP that i should know about. This would be cat 5.

Thanks.

Hey Tim! Good to see you around. I haven't raced in CP yet, but I'm supposed to start racing with a group of guys from CRCA that have formed this loose team like thing and have actually started racing a while ago (it's taken me a bit to shake off that crappy feeling of NYC winter and now that I have I won't be in town to race till next weekend and that's in CP) and have been putting it on a blog for a bit now. I'd read that if you're looking for some good first hand accounts. I should point that that for the most part races in CP are for CRCA members only. They do have a few non-member races including the Spring Series that's going on now, but for the most part it's CRCA only. Kissena will be starting the PP series soon and that should keep you busy with 2 races a month through the end of Aug. Should be a fun season. Let me know if you want to hit PP for a few laps this Sat Morning. I'll be there early (have to be home by 10, the missus and I are taking the weekend off and I have to be ready to go by 11), so let me know if you're up to it.

yeah, of course you can invite yourself. although i think daneil will be in prospect park, rather than CP. but either way, I'm out of town this weekend anyway so i won't be able to make it to either park. we'll have to keep this idea open. would love to do some laps with you guys.

by the way, that blog site is pretty good. i've been reading some of the entries so far, and haven't been too surpised yet (that's a good thing). one guy mentioned a high 17 mph on harlem hill - that's faster than i can do right now on my own, but i'm glad to see it's not totally out there.

Too bad about this weekend. And Dave although I was thinking of Prospect Park just because Tim and I are both in Brooklyn and it's closer for us. But if you want to do early AM laps in CP say 7:30-9:30 I should be able to swing that. Let me know.

Don't forget that you're also talking about the adrenaline from a race and the draft from the pack. Not to mention that the Spring Series races are only two laps so guys have been tending to go "balls out" on the hill for both laps. Also the rollers after the Harlem Hill tend downhill so it's actually a pretty nice cool down after sprinting up that hill.
