Well dang jaws...you're right. I remembered that I had a BB-6500 in the garage and went out to take a look. Sure enough, it's opposite of pedals...reverse threads are on the right side (as you sit on the bike...facing forward!). Sorry to lead ya on a wild goose chase, although I'm glad I re-learned this (I built my bike up from the frame) since I'm gonna switch to a double in the spring and will have to take out the BB!
