Interesting... I haven't had that experience. So far, they have been the perfect middle ground: fuel me for the long-haul, yet I never feel stuffed or bloated after even a big bowl. Even for long rides, I'd rather err on the side of "too light" of a breakfast than "too heavy", because I rely on gels and snacks for most of my long-range energy during the ride. Gels rock. (Yes, I know they aren't any better than figs, dried fruit, or whatever... but loading up a gel flask is just so damn compact and convenient!)
