You should pull your balaclava up over your nose. That is the advantage of a balaclava. You can cover...

A. Your neck
B. Your neck, head and chin
C. Your neck,head,chin and mouth
D. Your neck, head, chin, mouth and nose

It is very flexible. I seldom cover my nose just because I don't find it comfortable. However if you get into nasty enough conditions you have no choice. ONe thing that I find useful is pulling the balaclava just to the top edge of my upper lip. Then when I breath out warm air it is deflected to my nose. This works in all but the worst windchills.
